Purple Glitter Frenzy!

Well, I thought it was time to try out the nail polish my lovely and very bestest friend, Sara, got me for my birthday! She got me Sinful Colors in Frenzy.  It is the perfect combination of glitter and purple, my two favorite things! - does she know me well, or does she know me well?

Sinful Colors in Frenzy

OMG it is so glittery and awesome! Thank you Sara, I love it! <3

Hot Wired

Hello blog-readers! I wanted to do a post on one of my favorite nail products - Sally Hanson Salon Effects.  I found these last Spring and I thought they were awesome! They are so perfect for me because I can have a manicure that is even better than one from a salon, and it is easy and fast to do.  They make lots of sweet designs so there will be something everyone loves.  The ones that first caught my eye were the animal prints.

They come in packs of 2, nail tools, and a set of directions.  HERE'S A TIP: Personally I have super short and small nails so I can get away with using only one pack and cutting each strip in half, that way I get two manicures from one box (if you open a pack, the strips dry out so you have to use them right away)!

They are about $10, the price of a manicure at a salon, and if you cut them in half, its only $5! Yay! just peel them off the paper and stick them to your nails. They are soft and malleable so you can stretch them a little to fit your nail better, and they are made from actual nail polish, not stickers like other nail design products, so when you open the package you get that nail polish smell.  Then file off the extra that extends past your nail. Since they are soft, the excess comes off pretty easily. There are more detailed instructions in the box. Remember don't use a base coat or else they wont stick.  They last about two weeks if you are careful with your hands.

They make lots of patterns, but they made five limited edition Halloween patterns that were only available in October. So of course I bought all of them! Here is what they look like!

Sally Hanson Salon Effects in Hot Wired - Special Halloween Design

It is hard to see but this pattern is a bunch of barbed wires on a lime green background.  I finished with a clear top coat to seal the edges.

Have you used Sally Hanson Salon Effects before? Tell me what you think and what your favorite ones are in the comments!  I will post more of these so you can see more designs.

Gaga for these nails!

As you should know I am a HUGE Lady Gaga fan - the title of my blog is based on her "paws up" that she tells her little monsters at her concerts.  From the end of November until the beginning of January, Barney's Department  Store will be turned into Gaga's work shop: (scroll through that its awesome!) Everyday until the workshop opens Lady Gaga will release one of her new products she designed herself, and while I didn't buy these, I wanted to share these awesome nails because they are my two favorite things, Gaga and nails!
Here is the store link to see them better:,default,pd.html?utm_source=gagasworkshop&utm_medium=microsite&utm_term=gagasworkshop&utm_content=workshop&utm_campaign=DS

$225!!!!! OMG I nearly fell over.  But if anyone wants to chip in and help me out that would be awesome :-P
Tell me in the comments what you think about these!

Cosmic Charlie

Bonus points for anyone that gets the title reference!

Here is my FIRST post on a nail design! Like I said in my first post, I try to pic things that are easy for my non-dominant had to do, of course my right hand still never comes out perfect -sigh-.  On my quest for new and interesting nail art, I like to see  how the people of Youtube do it, and came across this video:
As you can see those nails look bad-ass, and mine totally didn't come out that good haha, but that was the general look I tried to go for...
Here is the base coat I use.  My nails break and chip all the time. I have been trying to grow my nails long but ultimately fail.  I have tried a lot of strengtheners and base coats but none really worked.  Sally Hansen Miracle Cure for Severe Problem Nails  is awesome! My nails actually have been growing, and even working with my hands all day at work, they are actually longer than they have ever been! So go out and buy it!
For the black night sky I used Sally Hansen Hard ad Nails Xtreme Wear in Black out.  As you can tell this bottle has seen better days, I have been using it for years, it is a nice basic black.
Whoa, hard to see white text on a white background huh? This is Love My Nails in White. Not the highest quality polish ever, but hey, I don't have a job!  This is the white I used for the start of the nebula.  The video called for a makeup sponge piece held with a tweezer.  However, I don't have any (makeup sponges that is) so I improvised and used a regular Q-tip that I painted the polish onto.  It worked pretty well if you have a light hand. I'd say if you have the makeup sponge, use it, but this worked as a good alternative.
So, if you watched the video, you would know this is where the yellow comes in, but I don't have any yellow polish.  So I substituted in Revlon Top Speed in Jaded.  I LOVE this line of colors.  I have 3 different ones, but honestly each color in this line is beautiful.  It goes on great, lasts long, and dries fast just as promised. Not too expensive and great quality, brb while I go buy more...
Just kidding.  Next step was the pink, I used N.Y.C. French Manicure in Love Letters.  It is a nice light pink with some glitter.  I got this from my best friend (thank you, Sara!) when we decided to exchange nail polish.
Next, the dark blue, and of course, Revlon Top Speed! This time in Royal. What can I say? Awesome brand and color!

The next step is the white dots for stars (sorry I don't have a photo).  I used the same white that I showed above, and used an orangewood stick (you know, those wood pointy sticks that the nail salon has).  I wish i used the toothpick as suggested in the video.  Making the little dots was hard, the polish wouldn't come off so easily so it was hard to get the affect of the little dots.

Last is the final coat of glitter...and I LOVE glitter! I am always on the search for glitter polish and this is the best one I have ever found...ever! It is Milani in Diamond Dazzle.  Most glitter polishes look like the are full of millions of sparkles, and then you try it out and you get like 4 sparkles on your nail...what the f! This one does not disappoint - lots and lots of glitter in a really nice color that goes with everything! It totally pulled the look together!

And here is the result, it may not look as good as that video (props to her BTW) but my guess is that most people aren't as pro as her, lol.

On a side note, sorry for my lack of middle finger.  I had a slight knife accident at work (ouch!) that I wont go into details about (unless you want them).  So right now my nail is out of commission.  Until it heals, I wont be putting polish on it. Also, look how clear that photo is! Real cameras are way better than phone ones :-P

A word on Nail Polish Remover

So to start off my blog I would like to say a quick word about polish removers.  I feel are often forgotten about, but, come on! - you can't try your new style with out it!  I am a strict vegetarian - I don't eat any meat, poultry, fish, and I don't use any animal products, that means no leather, and no GELATIN! So that will be the topic of conversation. Everyone has seen this, and you all probably own it:

The standard, basic polish remover that you can find in like every store.  Most of you pick it up without a second glance, and I did too for years.  But one day i read a little further.
GELATIN! For those that aren't as crazy as me, gelatin is a gel substance that is made from crushed up animal bones and connective tissues.  The should be enough for even  meat-eaters to be grossed out.  Gelatin is found in Jell-o, gummy candies, and many nail polish removers! So if this is something that concerns you - look out for it! Always read the ingredients.
So, upon learning this i was on a mission for gelatin free nail polish removers.  I tried an organic, acetone-free one from a vegan website.  But that didn't remove the nail polish at all and I was very disappointed.  So I use pure acetone.  It can be found at any CVS and is usually cheaper than the fancy stuff so that's a plus too.  On a negative side, it can dry out my nails, however I find that a small price to pay for saving and animal's life.

Long overdue, but here I am!

Helloooooo world! My name is Jacquie and I felt like I wanted to be part of this blogging world. First a little about myself: I am 22 years old, graduated from college an trying to figure out my life...but enough of that.  i LOVE to express myself with my hair, clothes, makeup and nails (but hey, what girl doesn't?)
That's a photo of my old awesome hair.  But Now that I am supposed to be looking for one of those jobby things, it was time to get a more professional look. Ugh. That left me feeling like I needed a new outlet to express myself - my nails.  I am in NO way a professional, I can barely grow my nails out, and most of the designs I do are based off how easy they are to do with my left hand onto my right. I just like to look for new products and new ways to make boring nails, pop. Every time I tried something new I would take a picture (on my camera phone which left them quite blurry and I apologize for that).  But as my phone filled with pictures I decided to share them.  Soooooo here are some of what I've done so far - blurry photos of the finished product - just so you guys can get a little preview.  As I try more and more things I will add steps, reviews, tips, and anything else I think you should know! So here it is...dun dun dunnn...don't worry you don't need your glasses!
