A New Years Mani

Hey guys!
A few weeks ago, Sara, and I did our normal CVS run, and we picked up a few polished.  Allllllll the way in the back of the store we found the Sally Hansen Gem Crush collection! We fell in love. Seriously, they are the most beautiful set of polishes I have ever seen! We each picked up one.  I grabbed Big Money.  My first thought was that it would make a perfect New Year mani!

Here is a swatch of Sally Hansen Gem Crush in Big Money.  Can you see why I think this is gorgeous!? I didn't even layer it over another color.  There is so much glitter it didn't need it! It has so many little gold pieces with some bigger purple ones mixed in.  What a great combination of colors.  I really can't get over how much I love it.

I really wanted to play off the purple accents for this mani, so I decided to do a french tip and gem accent nail. I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Black Out for the tip.

For the tip I did the scotch tape method.  I tried to make it less sticky, but it still took of a few pieces of glitter when I removed it.  Otherwise I think It worked out well.  I added some purple gems to bring out the bits of purple glitter in the polish.

Here is what I used:

I am also trill trying out that new nail protein I got, here is my progress:

I am using Nailtiques Formula 2.  This is day 5 (12/29/11).  I don't see much progress yet :(

So what do you guys think of my New Years Mani? Are you planning any manis to bring in the new year?

Holos and Lace

Part I-
So guys, you have seen lots of pictures of my nails and I'm sure you all noticed how short they are.  I have been trying to grow out my nails for as long as I can remember, but they are weak and they chip, peal, and break super easily.  It doesn't help that I have 2 jobs where I work with my hands which is really hard on my nails. I have tried countless things to help them grow and prevent breaking but nothing works.  So I found something new to try.  Its called Nailtiques Formula 2. So I figured I would share my nail growth chronicles here to see if this works.  Really, if it doesn't I'm about to give up trying. *sigh*

Anyway, here is day 0 (12/24/11)-

Here's to this working!

Part II-
Well this would me a very boring post if it was just about my sad, breaking nails. So of course I had to add a mani on top.

I wanted to (finally) try out  new polish I got back in the fall.  It is Milani 3D Holographic in Hi-Tech.  This color looked simply stunning in the bottle so I picked it up right away. It is a green holo and its is even more beautiful on my nails.  They come in a lot of colors and I will definitively have to pick up more Milani holos, any color suggestions?
I tired to take a photo that could do this color justice but I really couldn't.  It changes from different greens and gold in different light. It is such a gorgeous color.

I decided to spice it up a bit with a lace french tip stamp Using Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Black out.

I can't stop looking at this holo! And I think the contrast of the black lace was really what it needed to stand out.

What do you guys think? I hope you love it as much as I do!

Marbles and Stamps

Hey readers! Today I wanted to combine two nail art techniques, water marble, and stamping.  I have tried marbling before and usually was complete fail.  But  this time it didn't turn out too bad! I guess I just need practice (or the right polishes).  I also wanted to try out my first stamp mani! There are so many designs to try it's really overwhelming! I just want to try out so many ideas!

To start off this mani I used Love My Nails in White, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Cinna-snap, and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Sun Kissed to do the water marble part.

Here is the result, not bad if I do say so myself! Don't mind the mess, I'll clean up when I'm all done.

Here is the stamp plate I used.  To stamp I used Sally Hansen Xtreme-Wear in Black Out.

Anndddd.....Drumrolllll.....Here is the final result!

It kind of looks like an eye on my thumb! Pretty cool and weird.

Here is what I used -

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Cinna-snap, Love My Nails in White, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Sun Kissed, Sally Hansen Xtreme-Wear in Black Out.

For my base and top coat I used Sally Hansen Miracle Cure for Severe Problem Nails.

What do you guys think? At first I wasn't a huge fan, it wasn't really the look I was going for.  But the more I look at it the more I like it! I think it looks like a mosaic art piece!

Happy Chanukkah!

Hello friends! Tomorrow starts the first night of Chanukkah, and I spent last weekend with my boyfriend celebrating! We exchanged gifts and I wanted to share with you the awesome things he got me! (Ok - I know this doesn't have anything to do with nails, but I love my gifts so much I just wanted to share!!)

Everything he got me was from Barney's Department store.  Lady Gaga and her team designed a few items to go in Lady Gaga's Workshop.  As you all know I am a HUGE Gaga fan and I wanted nearly everything from her workshop.  My boyfriend was nice enough to get me two really awesome and beautiful gifts!  But, of course, being a huge Gaga fan and from New York, I couldn't give up the change to see the Workshop in person, so on Wednesday my best friend Sara and I are going to go! Yay! I am soooooooo excited! Here's what my boyfriend got me, just a little taste before I get to see all the magic!

A purple Born This Way necklace. I love Lady Gaga, Born This Way, and this necklace!!

OMG - How beautiful is this tea cup and saucer? As soon as I saw it I wanted it so so so badly...and then it sold out!! But It was a Chanukkah miracle that they restocked this limited edition tea cup and I am so happy that my boyfriend bought it for me.  I am super excited to drink tea out of it!

Here you can see the pattern on the saucer, It is so beautiful, I love it! Also, inside the tea cup is a fake diamond attached to the bottom.  This was based on an interview Gaga did recently.  She was drinking tea out of her tea cup and explained that she always keeps a fake diamond in her tea as she drinks it.  She then proceeded to finish off the last sip of her tea and caught the fake diamond in her teeth. Here is the interview:

I hope you liked all my gifts as much as I do.  Thank you again Ben for everything, I love them both so much! I love you!

Happy Chanukkah readers!

Don't Be a Flake

Hey guys! I am going to Philly tomorrow for a few days so I wont be able to post for a couple days. Also, tomorrow is my first day of my new job - scary!

I am so behind on my polishes, I have bottles from months ago that I haven't worn yet, oops! I got this flakie a few months ago.  I is Color Club in Covered in Diamonds.  I tried it against a mint green and I wasn't a big fan of how it looked. Plus the flakes were big and thick, so they wouldn't lay flat and I found myself picking at the pieces that would stick up.

So today I wanted to see how this flakie would look against a darker background, and I have to say it really gave it life! I like it much better against a dark blue, it really lets the colors reflected in the flakes pop.  It has pieces that are blue, green, purple, and orange.  They are more random and dispersed than a normal flakie, but I still think its pretty cool and I'm happy with it.

I paired this flakie with Revlon Top Speed in Royal (one of my favorite new colors that I haven't used much, but I really should - look how bright and awesome this blue is! Its almost electric).

How I achieved this look: Two coats of Revlon Top Speed in Royal, then two coats of Color Club in Covered in Diamonds.  And of course my base coat of Sally Hansen Miracle Cure of Severe Problem Nails.

So what do you think of this flakie? (Not to mention this blue!)

New Salon Express!

Hey all. Well after seeing everyone's awesome stamping manicures I went and got my own nail stamper! I know the big name is Konad, but to save money I got the Salon express.  I have never used Konad, but I really liked Salon express! It was pretty easy to use and fun to do! I just wanted to practice stamping and try out color combinations today.  As you can see I messed up a few times, but I am starting to get the hang of it and I am excited to try out more manis with my Salon Express!

Have you tried Salon Express? Tell me what you think!

Crackle-Lacque'n

Hello all!

It was time to finally sport a crackle manicure.  I know that now crackle polishes are super common and you can find them everywhere in all different colors and brands.  But for Valentine's Day earlier this year my mom got me the ORIGINAL crackle polish, OPI's Black Shatter.  This was part of Katy Perry's polish line and when crackle polish made its debut. I thought it was the most awesome thing ever and got so many compliments! A few month later the trend blew up, and I felt like a little trend setter, haha.

Since then I have done plenty of Black Shatter manis with lots of different color combinations, and I have even stocked up on a few other brands and colors.

Today I wanted to try something a little different, Black Shatter over a bright gradient.

Here is the base I started with.  I used the Hot Topic brand nail polishs (they don't have actual names) in a neon yellow and neon green.  I started with a coat of yellow all over, and then nail-by-nail, another coat of yellow, and then a little green line, like a french manicure.  With my finger I smeared the green with the yellow to blend them into a gradient.  As you can see it looks really messy, and I would never wear it like this on its own, but when you add the shatter, the imperfections are hidden.

What do you think? Personally I think it looks boss! I absolutely love it, I might have to try it with a pink/orange gradient next!

What you you think of Black Shatter, and this mani?

An Inspired Glitter Design

Hey hey! Well the lovely Amber from Nails Like Lace let me have a guest post on her blog and I wanted to share it with you!

For those that don’t know I am a HUGE Lady Gaga fan – hence Little Monster, and of course my blog title Claws up, based on Paws up.  I watched one of her interviews on TV and loved her nails!
Clearly I am no professional but I was really inspired by this look.  I love the accents of sparkle by her cuticles and I wanted to try a simpler style inspired by this look.

I started with black – Sally Hanson Hard as Nail Xtreme Where in Black out.  For the glitter, instead of nail polish, I used loose glitter – Splash Nail Art Glitter in Onyx.  It is a little jar full of, you guessed it, glitter, and I love my glitter!  This glitter is a beautiful dark silver/black with hints of green and goes great with any dark polish.  I love how easy it is to work with.  You and sprinkle it on, dip the tip of your nail for a French manicure look, or dip your hole finger for even more glitter.  What I love about this compared to glitter polish is that you gate so much more glitter on your nail and you don’t have to glob on lots of polish to get the glitter overload look you want and that I love.  Splash also makes a clear coat to go with their glitter.  I like to use it so I don’t get glitter into my normal clear coat.  The formula is great and really doesn’t push around the glitter too much if you are careful and it seals on the glitter to prevent it from falling off.

How I achieved this look: Start off with my secret weapon – Sally Hanson Miracle Cure for Severe Problem Nails.  Follow with two coats of Sally Hanson Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in Black out.  Then done, nail-by-nail, one more coat of clear and then the sparkles.  I took an orangewood stick, and with the flat cut side I scooped up some glitter from the jar and poured it onto the bottom on my nail by the cuticle, and shook off the excess back into the jar.  Finished off with a layer of the Splash Nail Glitter clear coat.

Tell me what you think!

Thank you again to Amber for letting me post on her lovely blog, remember to check it out and follow her! This is the original post Inspired Glitter Design with Claws Up
