OPI So So Skullicious

Good Morning! It's not very often that I just show you guys swatches of polish, actually I have NEVER really swatched before (just applied a color, snapped the photo, and took it right off).  If I paint my nails it usually stays on a few days. So for today I have some legit swatching to show you all!

When I first saw that OPI was releasing a Day of the Dead line of polishes I nearly died (get it?)! I absolutely love the Day of the Dead.  All the colors, the darkness but also the colors of everything! I also love that it is about celebrating life rather than being sad about death. Oh and not to mention that the Day of the Dead is on my BIRTHDAY. Bam! Needed this collection in my life!

The packaging is so awesome! It have a big sugar skull on front and a window to see all the polishes.  It also came with flower and sugar skull nail decals.  It has 4 mini bottles of polishes, however the colors are not too unique.

Hi, Pumpkin! is an orange creme. It is a pretty basic orange that is a staple in any polish collection. Application was pretty good, but a bit thin. This is 3 coats.

A-Rose From Death is a very nice hot pink.  It isn't neon but it is still bold. Application was also a bit thin, this is 3 coats again.

Mourning Glory is a black creme. It is not really unique, but it is a nice polish with a great shiny finish.  Application was better with this one, this is 2 coats.

Candlelight is what I would call an in between yellow. It is bright but not neon, but still on the darker side.  I don't have anything like it in my collection so it was a great addition for me.  This had the worst application however, it was very thin, needing 4 coats. I think I will wear this one with some underwear next time.

Here are the nail decals it came with. I can't want to try them for an awesome Day of the Dead mani! Halloween (and the Day of the Dead) is coming up soon!

What do you think of OPI's So So Skullicious collection?

Look Book: Leopard Zoo

Hello everyone!  It should be no surprise that I love zoos, I mean I used to volunteer at one! And of course I will always maintain that the Bronx Zoo is the best zoo in the world, I really love going to other places and seeing the zoos there.  I even traveled with Ben to Baltimore just to visit the zoo! So we knew that the 2 of us needed to visit the Philly zoo together while I was in PA visiting him last weekend.

It is also no surprise that I love leopard print, and leopards, and all big cats, and all cats in general. Also that I am a little bit insane, but in the good way. While on a shopping trip over the summer I picked up a leopard ear headband which I am still totally in love with! However I never knew where I could possibly wear it and not look like a complete freak. I thought a zoo would be just that place.  I decided to go all leopard out while I was at it.

These photos were taken by my lovely boyfriend, Ben in his back yard.  I have taken a few of my Look Book photos in his back yard (HERE and HERE). He has a crazy big backyard with all kinds of awesome things. These photos were taken by his chicken coop, I thought it was appropriate for a zoo look.

And for your enjoyment, here are some photos from our zoo trip!

Sephora Nail Bling Black Rainbow

Hey everyone! Sorry this post is a bit late.  Its Yom Kippur here in the Jewish world and I am fasting all day so I figured I'd take my mind off of my stomach and get to some posting!  As you all know I love nail strips.  One of the most popular brands is Sally Hansen.  But about a year ago I spotted some at Sephora. They had amazing 3D designs is fun colors and I fell in love.  So for my birthday (yes almost a whole year ago) my mom got me a set called Black Rainbow. I am terrible at getting around to trying new things, don't judge.

These strips are freaking awesome! They are like hundreds of multicolored rhinestones on a black background.  But they are all soft so you can cut them if you need to shorten the strips.  They really give a bold and unique look.

Here is the breakdown of the differences between the Sephora nail strips and Sally Hansen:

Material: Sally Hansen-Real nail polish/Sephora-Plastic

Application: Sally Hansen-Since are real polish they are much thinner so they break easier, and they stick on right away so you need to be exact when you place them on your nail because if you mess up you can't fix it/Sephora-They are more rigid and less fragile when working with them and if you mess up they can peal off so you can fix them

Shaping: Sally Hansen-Once you put them on your nail they are super easy to file off the excess and shape them perfectly yo you nail/Sephora-They are much harder to shape to you nail and it takes some extra time to get it right

Process: Sally Hansen-Place the strips right on out clean and unpolished nail/Sephora-They recommend starting with a base coat

Length: Sally Hansen-Longer, I can easily cut one strip in half to fit on 2 nails and still have excess/Sephora-Shorter, they are JUST long enough to cut in half to fit on 2 nails but some nails there wasn't quite enough

Wear: Sally Hansen-They last on my nails about 7 days with some minor tip wear and chipping before they peal off/Sephora-After 2 days the whole strip came right off my nail and I had to glue them all back on

Removal: Sally Hansen-Come off with nail polish remover and some elbow grease/Sephora-You need to peal them off

Designs: Sally Hansen- They have a lot of patterns, but most of them are pretty easy to recreate yourself/Sephora-The designs are a lot more elaborate and have a lot of 3D looks

Overall they both have their pros and cons and I will continue to buy both of them

Here's what I used:

What do you think of Sephora nail strips comapired to Sally Hansen? Which ones will you be using? Do you like the Black Rainbow nail strips?

Look Book: Summer Neons Turned Fall

I'm trying to win the chance to create my own Julep nail color. Please follow my Pinterest board :)

Hello! So as promised, I am going to show you the outfit I wore when hanging out with Sara a few days ago.  We had so much fun! We both work and she goes to school so lately I havn't been able to see my bestie.  We enjoyed a nice lunch and shopping day. And of course in my next post I will show you what I picked up (as well as some silly photos).  I aboslutly love neons and I have for a long time.  I know this summer neons have been really popular so it was great to be able to stock up on neon clothes while there are around.  While I love my neons, I love fall even more!  One thing I couldn't wait to do was break out my scarves, and of course they are neon!

Meow! I love these cat shoes! They would be perfect for Halloween too. I hate orange but I might need to find something orange to wear with them.

What do you think of this bright purple and yellow outfit?  Do you think neons are just for the summer, or can they be worn year-round too?

Make Up Looks: Bright Eyed

Trying to create my own Julep nail polish color on Pinterest! Please follow my board :)

Hello everyone! I am very excited to show you my first even make up post! I have been meaning to do make up posts pretty much since I started my blog almost a year ago (OMG).  My bestie, Sara, has been telling me for ages that I need to do make up posts, and on a recent shopping trip with her, I picked up a great eye shadow palette.  We met up this weekend to hang out and I thought it was the perfect time to try it, and to finally do my first make up post!

While at CVS we spotted Milani eye shadow! I never even knew Milani made eye shadow, and as a nail polish fanatic, I was super excited about it.  Plus the colors were bright, bold, and amazing! I picked it up right away.  It is called 01 Paint Eyeshadow Palette.

The one thing that I don't like about this eye shadow is that the colors are not well pigmented at all.  So I needed to start with a primer, which I usually don't have to do when using my Urban Decay shadows.  Next, I needed to put a layer of the white all over my eyelid in order for the colors to pop.  Of course we all know that little trick from wearing neon nail polish. I feel so smart applying skills from one part of my life to another :-P

I love color coordinating my eye shadow to my outfits.  When we met up I opted for a bright purple and yellow outfit (which I will post about next).  This is what I came up with for my make up...

How I accomplished this look:
I started with Urban Decay eyeshadow primer potion.
Then I put on a layer of the white shadow from the Milani palette.
Next I applied the yellow from the corners of my eyes outward.
Then I used the purple in the palette from the middle out, and a bit in the crease.
I highlighted the inner corner of my eye with a nude shimmer from the Almay Intense I-Color palette for brown eyes.
I lined my lower lid with Korres eye pencil in purple.
I lined my upper lid at the lash line with Korres eye pencil in black.
I finished off with Maybelline Lots of Lashed mascara.
To pair with this crazy eye look I opted for a nude lip, using Mally lip gloss in Mally's Look.

What do you think of my bright eyed look? Should I do more make up look posts?

Cruella De Vil

Good morning ladies! Today's mani is one that I have wanted to try since getting my Lynderella Connect the Dots.  I thought it would look totally awesome over black and white.  And if you are going to do a black and white mani, might as well add in some red!  Once I was all done it reminded me of Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmatians. So I advise you to listen to this song as you look at the rest of this post to put you in the Cruella De Vil mood.  But mostly just because every time I look at my hands it gets stuck in my head.

I love the shimmer in Connect the Dots. Its really noticible in real life but hard to photograph.  The last picture was the best shot I got of it.  It looks so pretty on both the black and white.
I love the effect of the black and white glitters over black and white.  The white polish makes the black glitters pop and the black makes the white glitters pop.  Of course, they both look really awesome over the red!
Here's what I used:
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in White On
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Black Out
Sinful Colors in Ruby Ruby
Lynderella in Connect the Dots
What do you think of my black, white, and red mani? Does it remind you of Cruella De Vil too?

Inspired by...Me!

Hello! I have a very exciting post for you today! Well mostly its just exciting to me. But its super exciting! My friend/co-worker, Ellese, saw my Piet Mondrian nails I did a while back and absolutely loved them.  Every time she saw me at work she told me that as soon as she got her acrylic nails redone she was going to do them just like nails.  Well yesterday she came into work to drop off her cat before her vacation and guess what she showed me? Her new acrylic nails with MY design on them! Squeeeee! I am so excited about it :) They turned out so awesome and I loved that she loved my design so much! Thank you Ellese, you're awesome!

Sorry for the terrible photo quality, when she came to show me her nails I only had my phone with me to take photos :( hopefully when she comes back from her vacation I will be able to take a picture on my real camera.

Thanks again Ellese!

What Would Macgyver Do?

Good morning!  One of my favorite things to do is to look at all of your wonderful manicures! When I see one I absolutely love (and looks like something even I could recreate) I save it to my inspirations folder.  And my mani this morning came from there.  Well actually it came from Rebecca Likes Nails!  She made a gorgeous mani using Lippmann's Let's Go Crazy and Happy Birthday.  Well I thought it was so gorgeous I wanted to recreate it! One problem. I don't own Let's Go Crazy. But I do have Happy Birthday, so I improvised :)

Any guesses on how I made my own Let's Go Crazy?

Hmmm. Figure it out yet?

Ok, cast your votes, the answer after the break!

Work Event Weekend Nails!

Good morning everyone!  I just had a really fun weekend...working! Yes working.  I have told you before I work at Best Friend's Pet Care, which is a dog and cat boarding and day care facility.  Frequently, we attend dog events t parks and other locations to try and promote the store.  This weekend my boss let me attend my first events! The first one was at a dog park, but sadly it got rained out.  The second one was at a pool!  It was so much fun seeing all the dogs play and swim together all day. My mom even stopped by with my dog!  I decided I needed some Best Friend's spirit on my nails for the events.

Little Girl Fingers

Hello! Today I'm back to a normal nail post.  Unfortunately, my nails have been breaking like crazy. It's really terrible, just when they get to a not to nubby length, they all break again.  So I had to file them all down :(

Recently I was at CVS and I was browsing the on sale table like usual, and I spotted Milani Techno Red, which is part of their neon line.  It looked like nothing I had in my collection and it was on sale so I knew I had to pick it up!  Its sort of a bright peachy/pinky/reddish color that is super sheer, almost jelly-like.  For the first time trying this polish, I decided to make use of its jelliness and I went for a bright jelly sandwich.

The traditional jelly sandwich usually calls for large glitters, but I opted for a micro glitter look.  I though the smaller glitters toned down the brightness of the polish.  However, the color looked a lot lighter on my nails than in the bottle.  I thought it would me more like a neon red and less of a pink.  I fee like the glittery hot pink mixed with my nubby nails made it look like I had little girl hands.

Here's what I used:
Milani in Techno Red
Milani in Diamond Dazzle

I feel like this layering kind of looks like it is its own pink shimmer polish.  I am excited to try different layering combinations with it.  Definintly over white for a more classic neon look, but since it is so jelly like I might later it over some other colors to give them a pink tint.

What do you think of this bright jelly sandwich and Milani Techno Red? What layering should I try next with it?

The end of my Summer - 2012

Hey guys! No nails today. Instead I wanted to share some photos of the end of my Summer.  Last weekend was filled with activity! I visited my boyfriend and we went to an Eagles pre-season game (did I say that right? I don't know anything about football) and after we went to Dave & Buster's! I even won 500 tickets in one shot on some weird dinosaur game. I traded them in for a blingy licence plate frame! Then we celebrated his grandma's 80th birthday at the Four Seasons. It was super fancy and all of the food looked so pretty.  I had a good summer but I'm happy that it's coming to an end.  You don't even know how excited I am for the Fall!  Pumpkin, scarves, Halloween, cool weather, changing leaves, hmm and what else?...MY BIRTHDAY!

Business on the left, party on the right

The only pattern I am more obsessed with than leopard print is leopard print and deep red.  I love how the neutrals in the leopard pattern looks with the bold red. They compliment each other perfectly! I have wanted to so a red/leopard mani for a while and I finally got off my butt and gave it a try.

There were many options I could have gone with: accent nails, french tips, half took me a couple days to decide how I wanted to do them.  But then I remembered seeing these nails by Nailside and I knew I found a winner.  She does amazing 50/50 manicures and I love how It looked with the leopard print on one side and a solid color on the other.  It reminded me of a mullet (but in a good way) with business on one side and a party on the other.

She stamped on her leopard print, and I actually was going to do the same, but I ended up free handing on the spots.  Sometimes I get supper annoyed with stamping. I hate cleaning the plate, stamper, and scraper between each nail. I feel like I am wasting polish and acetone. I used this tutorial by Chalkboard Nails to do the leopard print.  I ended up having so much fun making the spots! I love that you can pretty much do anything you want and they turn out amazing and really natural looking! Each spot looks unique from the others, just like real leopard never have the same spot patterns. I am so amazed how east and fun it was to do, I cant wait to make a million more leopard spot manis in all kinds of color combinations!

First I applied the gold to each nail.  Then I added the leopard print all over. I let them dry and using blue painter's tape I covered half of my nail and painted on the red.  Right away, I pealed off the tape.  I finished with Seche Vite.

Here is what I used:

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Golden-I
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Black Out
Spoiled in Pumping Gas
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Cinna-Snap

What do you think of my 50/50 leopard look inspired by two amazing bloggers?
