Inspired by Crazy Berries

While my brother was visiting recently, we were sitting outside and I spotted some crazy looking berries.  They were pink, teal, purple, and green, all on one bush! I have never seen anything like it.

Seriously how freaking cool is that?

Well a few people said that I should do a mani inspired by these berries, and of course I said yes.

I dotted on some berries in the various colors and then added a twig and some green leaves.  On my ring finger I just went all out and covered it in berry colored dots.

After I was done I realized it looked a lot like my tree in a storm mani. Opps. Oh well :)  I love how my accent nail turned out, I might do a full mani like it.

Here is what I used:

The berries-
Revlon Top Speed in Jaded
Hard Candy in Sky
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Lacey Lilac
Ciate in Strawberry Milkshake

The bush/background-
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Wet Cement
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Emerald City
Spoiled in Pumping Gas
Spoiled in I Only Eat Salads

What do you think of my crazy berry inspired mani? Have you ever seen berries like them before?

Cat Shoes. Meow!

Yes, that is what I said, cat shoes!  As you know I am kind of obsessed with my cat, Muffin, and pretty much just cats in general.  I have accepted my fate as a crazy cat lady and I choose to embrace it!  When my best friend, Sara, showed me these shoes my reaction was "hahaha crazy cat lady shoes...omg they are so cute I need them!"  I also love that they are completely vegan and human made.  So, of course, I bought them.

How freaking cute!  They also fit perfectly and are so comfy! These have become my new favorite shoes in my huge collection.  I can't wait to make loads of outfits with these and wear them all the time!

What do you think of my new cat shoes? Gonna grab a pair for yourself?

David's Visit Part 2: Cyborg Nails and a Man-icure

Hello!  Today I have part 2 of the photos from my brother's visit last weekend.  While he was here, my sister in law, Deborah, asked me to do her nails. And of course I said yes!  I have never done anyone else nails before.  It was fun but different from doing your own.  I don't keep any nail stuff at my mom's place so I went to my dad's and picked out some polishes I thought she would like and brought back all my supplies.  She chose her colors and I got to work!

She chose a really unique a pretty berry colored Essie that she actually brought with her from home.  After some convincing my me and my brother she let me paint some Essie Luxeffects flakies on top.  The end result was awesome!  They looked amazing on the darker polish and it really caught the light.  My brother kept joking that It made her look like a cyborg :-P Then I gave her my camera to take photos.

Here is what I used:
Essie in Angora Cardi
Essie Luxeffects in Shine of the Times

After I was all done my brother then asked me to do his nails!  But of course he wanted a man-icure!  I just evened out his nails and took care of his cuticles.  After I was done he kept saying that it looked like he had different hands.

I know these aren't my nail but I hope you enjoyed!  I have been super busy playing blog catch up for two blogs.  Hopefully I will find the time to do my nails soon and get back into the swing of posting.

David's Visit Part 1: Bittersweet

Hey guys. I'm sorry I have been absent from my blog for so long.  As you know my Grandma passed last week.  My brother and sister in law came up to visit and I took some time off work and blogging to spend with them.  They live in Austin and I only see them about once or twice a year so I always love when they visit.  Unfortunately it was under these circumstances.  But we still made sure to enjoy our time together and have as much fun as we could.   Here are some photos we took hanging around the house.

This is my doggy Gizmo! He was enjoying his new zebra toy I got for him.

Gizmo loved to jump on us on the couch!

These berries were growing on a bush in my backyard.  How cool are they? I have never seen berries like this!

We showed my Mom what "planking" is. Hilarity ensued.

My Mom let me keep this painting that my Grandma did years ago.  This is the one that inspired this manicure that I did recently.

I love my big brother!

Next time I will have part 2 of his trip which will be more nail related :)

V Magazine Gaga Memo No. 7

Hello! As you all obviously know, I love nail art.  And I have mentioned a bunch of times that I am obsessed with Lady Gaga.  What happens when those two worlds collide? 1. This blog. 2. Pure joy.  Recently Lady Gaga wrote an article about the importance of having your nails look good, a topic I know every single one of you can agree with!

Does that nail pose look familiar? :-P

HOLD ON. BEFORE YOU READ, THIS YOU MUST BE AWARE THAT MANICURES ARE EXTREMELY UNDERRATED! YOU MAY ALREADY BE ROLLING YOUR EYES, BUT PLEASE LET ME GET A WORD IN ABOUT THIS!

I find that any woman—no matter how stylishly she is dressed—is instantly above the rest if well-manicured. I know this may sound harsh, but perhaps if I beat it into you, you will CUT THOSE CUTICLES. TAKE the time for yourself, do it more frequently, just to stay in a nice self-compassionate habit. Grab a coffee and a magazine, this moment is just for you. Also, if you d on’t have the money, doing it at home by yourself is an excellent hobby (spring for fun nail products to make this more enjoyable), and tell your friends that manicure-related products make good gifts! If you are not pressed for cash, find and kidnap the best nail technician in your city and make her your best friend (when you’re trying to close that deal with Coca-Cola, your shiny talons will come in handy, I promise).

SIX REASONS YOU SHOULD DO THIS:
1) HAVING A PERFECT MANICURE INSTANTLY MAKES YOU FEEL BEAUTIFUL AND CLEAN.
2) YOU’LL BE READY FOR SEX OR TO PUT A PENIS IN YOUR HAND.
3) IT’S A WAY FOR YOU TO EXPRESS YOURSELF (CAREFUL HOW YOU DO THAT).
4) IT FORCES YOU TO SEE THE IMPORTANCE OF MAKING TIME FOR YOURSELF.
5) IT BOOSTS YOUR SELF-ESTEEM EVERYDAY.
6) IT PROJECTS AN IMAGE OF SUCCESS, WHICH IS GOOD FOR BIZ.

So, for my dear veteran salon goers, I’m including some more adventurous options and tips on how I like to do my nails. Thank you to my amazing manicurists, Aya, Emma, Marian, and Deborah, for always taking care of my prims. And to Freddie for gluing on my nails, Brandon for telling me when I need a manicure, and Tara for telling me I don’t.

 LADY GAGA

P.S. Ladies in lights, in the magazines, and on red carpets—know that I am judging your cuticles…but that’s about it.

I love you, Grandma

RIP Judith Adwokat ♥ You were the strongest woman I ever knew. You were the only woman that, last year at 94 years old, could get pneumonia, and fully recover and live for another year happy and pain-free. One of the few to survive the destruction Hitler created. While your parents and brothers did not,you made it out. You beat him. You get to rejoin your sisters, brothers, parents, and Granddaddy. You are my role model, I love you.

An inspired geometrical design.

My 100 post giveaway ends in 3 days!

As I was reading through all of your amazing blogs this week like always, and this mani by Nail Crazy really caught my attention! I love the fun colors and random shapes and I knew I wanted to try this out myself.

I started with this gorgeous lilac base.  I have had it in my collection for a while.  I used it on one finger in my sunset butterfly mani, but I love it so much I wanted to show you it in a full mani.

Then I painted stripes of different polishes onto tape, let them dry, and cut out random shapes.  It was really fun an easy to do! I ended up cutting my triangles smaller than Nail Crazy did.  I think if I try out this look again I will make my shapes larger and more varied.

Then I stuck then on my nails in random places, and finished with 2 coats of topcoat.

Here's what I used:
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Lacey Lilac
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Black Out
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Emerald City
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Golden-I
Revlon Top Speed in Royal
Kleancolor in 94 Holo Chrome
Jolly Rancher Scented Nail Polish in Watermelon

What do you think of this geometric look?

Crackle-Lacque'n: Mosaic

My 100 post giveaway ends soon! Remember you can get more entries everyday!

Using the crackle polish in my last mani really made me remember why I love it so much! It is such a cool affect that I have never see recreated by any other method of nail art.  I am also going to just ignore that most of the people reading this hate crackle.  I love it and I'm proud, I will scream it from the rooftops so all of the blogosphere can hear me!  Ok I think I excited myself a bit too much...

The inspiration from this mani came from this photo I found on Google:

And while my nails are not that long or pointy, I loved this version of a crackle mani.

I started by dabbing on blobs of pink, green, and yellow polish in a random pattern.  It was actually really fun! It had no rhyme or reason.  I made sure to fill in all the blank spaces with the polish and even layered the spots for more even coverage.  Then a swipe of micro glitter polish on top.  I have heard rumors that crackle doesn't work over glitter, so I added some SV for good measure, before I painted on the crackle.

It was hard to capture the glitter in pictures, but I managed to here.  Its more noticeable in person.

Ahh I love this! It looked like I layered multiple kinds of crackle.  I think it is a really complex look that is super seat to do.

Here is what I used:
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Bubble Gum Pink
Revlon Top Speed in Jaded
Sinful Colors in Unicorn
Milani in Diamond Dazzle
OPI in Black Shatter

What do you think of this mosaic crackle look?

Simple. Easy. Vegetarian!

Hello!  As you guys all know I love blogging, and while I love nail art, one of the biggest aspects of my life is my vegetarianism.  I have been a vegetarian for 11 years and have been loving every moment of it!  Recently I have been thinking about expanding my corner of the blogging world, and after some encouragement from my best friend, Sara, I took the plunge and started a blog about my life as a vegetarian.

Simple. Easy. Vegetarian!

Here I will be talking about the foods I eat, cook, and stay away from.  My goal is to show how easy it is to be a vegetarian!

Pink and Black Skittles

My 100 post giveaway is still going on!

Hello!  For today's look I have two colored skittles.  Neon colors are popular this summer, but I have loved them since I was a little kid!  My favorite is neon pink, and I have had this beauty in a bottle for a few years already.  I love the way neon colors look with black, so I decided to try a different mani on each nail using neon pink and black.

My index finger is a gradient, on my middle I'm rocking some abstract 50/50 dotticure, my ring finger is a half moon look, and then stamping on my pinky.

I know almost everyone is over crackle, but I am still a fan.  I finished with crackle on my thumb.

I can't get over how much I like the hot pink crackle over black!

Here is what I used:

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Black Out
Color Club in Pink Rush
LASplash Crackle'd in Love'd

What do you think of my 2-toned skittle mani?  Which digit is your favorite?

Glitter Bomb...Matte or Shiny?

Don't forget to enter my 100 post giveaway! Ends in 12 days!

Hello!  For today's nails I am going to show you a style I have wanted to try out for a while: the glitter bomb!  I love how they look, all the different glitters together always create an amazing look.  The reason I kept putting it off was the inevitable removal process that will then follow.

I love how glitters look matte! I am have been meaning to use my matte top coat more often, but what happens is I paint my nails and they are all glittery and shiny and I don't want to change it!  So I kept my right hand shiny and I mattified my left hand.  Which look is better? You decide!

Also, I seriously apologize for the state of my cuticles.  I thought about taking a polish break until they looks a little better, but I just couldn't let my nails get arrested for public indecency. So let's just ignore my ugly cuticles and look at my glittery nails. Ooohh glitter!

I started with Wet N Wild's Born Into Privilege, which is an amazing glitter POLISH (not top coat) with green micro glitter with lots of other colored hex glitters.  I showed you guys Born Into Privilege  here.

Then I layered Lippmann's Happy Birthday, followed by Barielle's Starchild.  A swipe of Seche on each hand, with Esse's Matte About You on my left hand only completed the look.

Here is my rarely seen right hand with the shiny version of this look:

Over all I loved this look! I'm sad it took me so long to try a glitter bomb.  I love all the different colors, sizes, and types of glitter and how they all seem to fit well together.

Here is What I used:
Wet N Wild Coloricon in Born Into Privilege
Deborah Lippmann in Happy Birthday
Barielle in Star Child

So now for the moment of truth, which version do you like better, matte or shiny?  I think the matte looks like an elegant ball, while the shiny looks like a sweet 16 party.  They are both different but pretty in their own way and  I can't decide which one I like better.

What do you think of my glitter bomb look?  What are your favorite glitters to use in glitter bombs?
