NYE Shooting Stars

Happy New Years Eve everyone!  I really love celebrating New Years every year.  It's a great excuse to get all dressed up and go out and have lots of fun. And of course, a holiday appropriate manicure always goes along with that.  So today I am taking a break from the Ciate Mini Mani Month box to show you my NYE nails.

My very awesome brother, David, got me some awesome Lippman's for Chanukkah this year. Told you he was awesome.  I decided Ray of Light was the perfect NYE polish

Photobucket

Ray of Light is dark purple jelly with orange flakies, that reflect a bit of green in the right light.  Application wasn't bad, this is 2 thick coats.  Ray of Light dries matte, which is awesome for a flakie polish.

In order to really take this mani to NYE status, I added a glitter gradient using Lynderella The Stars on her Eyes.

I topped this off with Lippmann's Addicted to Speed top coat, also given to me by my brother.  I have to say this is the BEST top coat I have ever.  It dried faster than other top coats, and it really set in my polish solid.

Here's what I used:

Deborah Lippmann in Ray of Light
Lynderella in The Stars in her Eyes

I love how this came out! And I finally mastered the glitter gradient down! All thanks to the WAH book of nail art that I got from my mom, which gave me some great tips on a glitter gradient.  Now I just need to work on my regular gradients, bleh.

This mani is full of sparkle, and it really catches the light.  I think its super festive for NYE!

I hope you all have a safe and fun New Years Eve and a healthy new year. See you all next year! ;)

Pearly French

Hello everyone!  Well yesterday was was as sad day in the world of Jacquie's right hand.  I was at work, and I was getting a dog out of his room.  When I reached for the clip on the door, my hand slipped and my thumb jammed into the metal.  When I look at it, my thumb nail split all the way down to the nail bed. :( :( :( All I thought was "thank goodness it was my RIGHT hand, and not my blog hand!"  When I came home I knew it was time to pamper my hands and slap on a new mani. Which brings me to day 6 of the Ciate Mini Mani Month!

Photobucket

Angel Wings is a really pretty white pearl polish.  I knew for a classy color like this, I needed a class manicure.

Photobucket

I opted for a simple french look, with a pearly tip twist!

This is what I used:

Ciate in Angel Wings
NK Nail Enamel in a sheer nude (Sorry, no name on this one!)

I wasn't sure how a pearly white was going to translate to a french tip, but in the end I love how it came out.  Still a basic french look, with just a little unique touch.  The formula on this was surprisingly good for a sheer pearl white, needing 2-3 coats.

What do you think of Angel Wings? And this pearly french look.

Purple Leopard

Hello everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your holidays.  I am still sick over here :(  But not too sick to show you day 5 of the Ciate Mini Mani Month!

Photobucket

This is Cabaret, a gorgeous deep purple creme!  I am been wanting a polish like this for a while so I was delighted when I opened the door and there it was!

I decided it was time to rock another leopard mani, so I grabbed my dotting tool and went at it.

Here's what I used:

Ciate in Cabaret
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Wet Cement
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Black Out

Unfortunately, Cabaret was a bit too dark, making the black leopard spots are too see.  Oh well, I still love the color and I can't wait to keep wearing it!

What do you think of this purple leopard look, and Cabaret?

Sick.

Well, winter has just begun, and already I'm sick.  I was luckily born with an amazing immune system, and only get sick less than once a year, and usually only for about a day.  I was never the kid of person that let the world stop just because I was sick.  Some people lay in bad for days, call out sick and skip school, they decide that being sick is going to stop them.  That's not me.  If you need to stop working because you are sick, then you should stop playing when your sick too.  If there is one thing I learned from my grandma, is to not let feeling sick stop you from achieving success.

Photobucket

I also refuse to take medicine when I have a cold.  I feel that people that drown themselves in pills only hurt them in the long run.  If you don't let you body do what it was designed to do, it will lose the ability to do it.  Getting sick helps you.  Its makes you immune system stronger, and more able to fight off colds the next time around. I try not to take penicillin, or cough medicine.  I load up on tea, honey, and vitamin C.  Hopefully I can kick this cold soon, and until then I will be watching some  Glee, and reading all of your lovely blog posts!

I am a Prom Queen

Hello everyone! I scheduled this post, so if the world ended already, you aren't reading it :-P

Time for day 4 of the Ciate Mini Mani Month.  I was really excited about today because I had been eagerly waiting to open the door and find caviar pearls behind it!  I knew that the box had a few hidden in there, so I was really happy when I opened door number 4, and found a little bottle of beads!

Photobucket

This is Prom Queen, a mix of silver, pink, and purple caviar beads, with a few pink and silver hex glitters thrown in.  I never saw hex glitters in a caviar mix, so I thought it was pretty awesome.  I also love these colors, they are my three favorites!  I was also entertained by the name, as I have decided to become a Gleek, and watch all the episodes on Netflix for the first time.  I just finished the episode where Kurt gets crowned prom queen :-P

As I mentioned before, my mom got me a nail art book for Chanukkah, and it was filled with lots of ideas I wanted to try, one of them being the bows! So I picked up some nail art pens, and I thought I would try them out.

Here's what I used:

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Lacey Lilac
Ciate Caviar Pearls in Prom Queen
Black and White Kiss nail art pens

I love how cute and girly this turned out! It is really fun!  Sadly, the hex glitters didn't really stick to the nail polish, so all I got was beads.  It was disappointing, because I thought the glitters were cool in the bottle.

What do you think of this girly caviar look? Do you like Prom Queen as much as I do?

Look Book: Black and Red

Hello lovelies!  Last weekend I went out with my two besties Sara and Avra for dinner and some fun.  It was great seeing them, with out work and school its getting hard to find days we can all meet up.  We enjoyed dinner at a place called Elevation burger, and we all got veggie burgers! Followed but some shopping, seeing more friends, and lots of funny and random talks. It was chilly out, so I knew I wanted to wear a sweater to keep warm. Then I let my inspiration guide my outfit choice.

Photobucket

Photobucket

I opted for a red and black look, starting with my black sweater, and pairing it with red pants and belt.  Of course I can't wear red without some leopard, so I layered a leopard cami under my sweater.

Photobucket

Photobucket

We had a great time, and I am really enjoying the new, awesome smelling candles that I bought!  I can't wait to hang out again!

What do you think of my black and red outfit? What is your favorite thing to do with friends?

Baby, I can see your Halo

Good morning everyone!  Yesterday I had a busy morning, my cat, Muffin, woke up with her eye hurting.  I took her too the vet, and she has a scratch on her eye :( They gave me some drops for her and I need to keep an eye on it.  She's feeling mopey though, and I fee bad. I hope she get better soon!

Today I have day 3 of the Ciate Mini Mani month!

Photobucket

Halo!

When I first saw Halo, it looked like a shimmery holo top coat, that I thought would look great layered over a dark color.  After I did my nails, I looked up some swatches, and it can be layered to be worn on its own too.  Maybe next time I'll wear it like that, but today I decided to layer it over blue for a winter look.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Halo didn't pop as well over the blue as I thought, I will try layering it over black next time, and seeing what its beauty looks like on its own.  But at the right angle you can see the flecks really catch the light.  Inspired by the winter night look, I added some snowflakes! I am just so festive.

Photobucket

This was the best photo I took that captured the holo effect.

Photobucket

Here's what I used:

Photobucket

Revlon in Royal
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in White On
Ciate in Halo

This polish is pretty cool, I am super excited to try layering it over different colors and seeing what it looks like. This was my first time trying out snowflake nails too!

What do you think of Halo?  What other colors should I layer it with? What do you think of this winter themed mani?

Firmoo.com Glasses Review - New Glasses!

Hello everyone!  I have a special post today.  I have been wearing glasses for 10 years, and I think I have worn almost every style there is.  So when Firmoo contacted me with the opportunity to try and review a pair of glasses from their site I was so excited!

Firmoo is an online glasses store with literally any style of glasses you could want in many different styles, sizes, and colors. All Firmoo glasses are made of high-quality material which ensures them more durable and not easy to deform. They are also lightweight and convenient to carry. You can opt for some prescription glasses, like I wear. Or if you have contacts, or perfect vision, glasses have become a really popular accessory.

I also love that Firmoo gives you the option for prescription sunglasses.  If you wear glasses, you know how hard it can be to deal with the sun.  You either need to squint, or you wear your normal sunglasses, but then everything is blurry. All the glasses on Firmoo are really fun and fashionable.  I had no doubt I would find lots of options that I would love, and I know that everyone else would too!

I always have a really hard time choosing glasses.  Seriously, I end up going to the eye doctor multiple times, for hours, agonizing over the pair that is best for me, and it was no exception with Firmoo.  They let you upload photos of yourself on order to see what each pair of glasses will look like on.  I was "trying on" almost every pair of glasses they offered for days, before I finally made my decision. You have the option of either uploading a photo of yourself, or taking one with you webcam, which is what I did.  Then you chose your PD and click on your pupils.  Once you do that, you are ready to try one loads of glasses!

Your PD stands for Pupillary Distance, which is the distance between your pupils in millimeters, Your PD is very important for accurately fitting your lenses to achieve vision acuity.

Speaking of PD, that led me to the only issue I encountered.  At the eye doctor, they have a tool to measure your PD with accuracy.  Since Firmoo is all online, you need to measure it yourself.  They provide instructions and photos in order to help you measure it yourself, but it was difficult, and I was worried that I didn't do it accurately.  For something that is so crucial in fitting your glasses, I wish there was a way to be sure I measured the correct number.

Once that was done, I got to trying glasses on!

Take a guess at which ones I chose! The answer after the break.

As Free As My Hair + Gifties

Hello everyone! Sadly, my trip to Texas got cancelled, which left me some time to get things done that i have been too busy to do.  One of them is finally getting my hair dyed!  Seriously, my roots were like 4 inches long. Redic. Also my bangs needed a trim.  Bangs down to you chin aren't bangs anymore.

When my mom and I got to the salon, I was reminiscing about all the colors I used to dye my hair and how much I missed it.  My mom hasn't let me put fun colors in my hair because she wanted me to look professional for my job.  Though she said that she would think about letting me add just a little somethin' somethin'.

Then my hair stylist, Julius, came over to talk to me.  BTW he also does the hair for the women on the Real Housewives of New Jersey. Baller status. I told him I wanted the usual, hidden platinum blonde streaks and a nearly black base.  But he said he didn't want to change my base color. I was worried that if I just had blonde highlights with brown hair it would look too normal, and I am not about looking normal. He said to me "Jacquie, would I ever do that to you? Trust me!"  So I did.  In the next breath he yelled out to one of the girls "get me some purple hair dye!!" It's like he can read my mind.

Photobucket

Looks normal enough, right?

Photobucket

BAM! SO much blonde!

Photobucket

And of course my little somethin' somethin'.

Seriously, Julius makes my hair into a work of art.  Every time I move it around I find more surprises hidden under each layer.  I am so excited to figure out lots of ways to wear it where I can show off the blonde, or purple, or keep it hidden.

My mom also gave me her Chanukkah presents for me.  She gave me lots of little things from hair clips, to nail polish, and hoodies, but here are the favorites that I got.

Photobucket

The WAH Nails Book of Nail Art is a book full of awesome nail art ideas and how-tos.  There's also some good info on nail care and manicure prep.  The perfect gift for a nail blogger!  I am excited to try some of the looks out, its really giving me lots of ideas.

She also got me a Lady Gaga paws up ear cuff!  Perfect gift for the little monster (also the money went to helping shelter animals, so not only did I get a cool earring, but some animals got some help too, which is an awesome gift!).

Like every little monster, my feelings can be expressed through Lady Gaga songs.  I always had a huge connection to my hair.  When my hair looks good it makes me feel confident, and when it looks bad, it totally kills my whole self esteem. I find one of the best way to express myself is through my hair.  I hate when my hair has to follow rules of how to look.  But now my hair is finally free to express myself. I am as free as my hair!

What do you think of my new hair?  Do you have a connection to your hair like I do?  Have you gotten any awesome holiday gifts yet?
