Mix & Match: NYE 2014

Hello everyone and happy last day of 2013! I was going to have this post come out tomorrow, but I decided to post a day early :) I am super excited to go out for New Years tonight. Now, I'm happy to have any reason to dress up and go out, but this New Years feels a little different.

14 years ago, the number 14 became my lucky number (my online name is LittleMonsterx14 for a reason!). When I turned 14, my mom told me that it would be my lucky year. We are about to enter the year 2014, and I can just feel that its going to be something special. I don't know why, or what will happen, but the year '14 is going to be a special one. I am so excited to see what the year brings, and to fully enjoy all the things the number 14 will bring me!

Look Book: Sweater Weather

I know you have all had a nail polish lemming, but for 2 years I also had a sweater lemming.  How hard is it to find a beige, knit, pullover sweater? Well, surprising pretty hard. I spent hours searching online, and going in and out of stores looking for the perfect beige sweater, but I just couldn't seem to find it. Over the past few months, I have been in and out of Khols stores, and while I found lots of new jeans, dress clothes, and even pumpkin towels to match my kitchen, I could never find the right sweater. Some were white, others had an open front, some were too thin, all failed my requirements. However, the fashion Gods smiled upon me on my last shopping trip, and there it was, my perfect beige sweater...not in my size! I immediately ordered it from the Khols online kiosk, and a week later it was finally all mine!

Winter Pine

The weather just wont seem to make up its mind. Last week we had some terrible snow storms, and this week its been in the 60's!  I hate going out in the snow. Its cold, wet, slippery, and hard to drive in, but you have to admit its beautiful! I just love how trees look covered in snow, how beautiful it is when icicles hang off roofs, and when small snowflakes flutter down to the ground looking like glitter in the air. I had some pretty bad nail breaks over the weekend, but last week when my nails were long, and the snow was falling, I got some manicure inspiration.

300th Post & 2 Year Blogaversary GIVEAWAY!!!

HELLO EVERYONE! Today I have a super duper awesomely special post.  You guys might remember that my 2 year blogaversary happened last month. It actually took me by surprise and I didn't have anything planned to celebrate. I had been thinking a while about what I wanted to do.  I noticed that this was also my 300th post, and I decided that I wanted to do a giveaway to celebrate both momentous occasions!

Make Up Looks: Blue and Smokey

My friends can vouch for me that I always match my makeup to my outfits. Now, I know you are "supposed" to wear makeup that flatters your features, or makes your eyes pop, but when it comes to self expression, I was never one to do what I'm "supposed" to do. So when I wore this black and blue spacey outfit, I knew I needed some makeup to match.

Look Book: Space Case

I was having a minor fashion crisis during the last couple of weeks, as you could probably tell by my lack of outfit posts. The transition from fall to winter left me super confused with what to wear. Now that there's lots of snow on the ground, there is no question that winter is here. To me, winter is sweater season. I was waiting until all the leaves were officially gone to break out the sweaters, and now my brain is overflowing with outfit ideas featuring sweaters. It helps that I just bought two new sweaters, which I'll feature in some outfits coming up.

While I was home for Thanksgiving, my two best friends gave me the belated birthday gifts that had for me. That included an awesome knit galaxy scarf from my friend Avra, that I just love! Sweater + scarf = perfect winter outfit, that's the kind of math I love.

Mosaic Half Moons

Have you ever wanted to do you nails but just couldn't decide what to do? Look who I'm talking to, I'm sure that's a common occurrence.  When I'm lacking inspiration, I usually turn to Pinterest, or my collection of my favorite looks from my favorite bloggers.  Among the clothes, nails polish, bags, and food that I got from my mom for Chanukkah this year, she also got me a book of nail art ideas.  I decided to take my nails to the page and see what I could create from the book. I opted for a look called Stained Glass nails, changed it just a little, and turn it into a colorful mosaic tile look.

Winter Nights

Good morning and happy Saturday! A while ago I won the Autumn Nights China Glaze set in a give away, and I finally got around to trying it out, in the last few weeks of fall. Its starting to get cold and wintery around here, but technically its still fall, and I'll hold onto to the leaves, crisp weather, and pumpkins for as long as I can. Soon it will turn dark and snowy, and then move to the even worse season of spring. I really loved the dark and shimmery colors in the set, and I wanted to wear them together. I picked a few that I thought would look the best together and went with it!

Look Book: Favorite Fall Outfit

As the weather gets colder, and the first snow falls, its easy to see that fall is coming to an end (sniff sniff) and winter is beginning.  I definitely feel that this fall sped too fast. With some stressful times around here, plus crazy weather, I felt that I couldn't fully enjoy my fall.  Fall was not all lost, however, I still got to enjoy some fun times.  While I wore a number of different outfits this fall, there was one that I kept going back to when I couldn't decide what else to wear. This was easily my favorite outfit this fall.  And since I wore it so much, I wore it when Ben and I visited his house a few weeks ago, which meant another fun photo shoot.

Festival of Lights

As the holidays get closer, red and green are starting to pop up all over the blogosphere. While those are lovely colors, I often start to feel left out. Its Christmas this and Santa that, and a little Jewish girl like me can't relate. While I love Chanukkah, this is by no means my favorite time of year, so I usually go about my own nail buisness. This year, for the first time, I decided to get a little festive on the blog.  Since we are in the midst of the holiday right now, I thought I should share some Chanukkah nails!

Mix & Match Makeup Looks: Catching Fire

So, for some reason, my hashtags no long work on Instagram.  They show up under my picture, but when I click the hashtag, my picture doesn't appear with all the others.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, my account is connected to Facebook, and I have logged in from other devices and it still doesn't work. I can't tell you how angry I was on Sunday because of this. If anyone has any ideas, PLEASE HELP!

I was almost too mad to do my Catching Fire makeup look, but I'm happy I did it anyway because I loved it! I guess a fiery look was only appropriate for how angry I was feeling.  The movie was really good too, but I wont give anything away in case some of you haven't seen it.

Mix & Match: Catching Fire

*deep breath*

I actually didn't care much for the first Hunger Games book or movie.  But I had made a decision to read all of them and see all the movies, so I read Catching Fire...and I LOVED it!  I found the story to be much more interesting and less cliche than the first one. Also the arena was so awesome. I am really excited to see how the movie tells the story.

That means CF nails.  Now I am not a Hunger Games nail virgin, and I felt the need to keep up with the tradition.

Jacqueline Loves Godiva

BREAKING NEWS:  My pinky nail was in a terrible collision! While putting on my socks (yes, you read that correctly) my hand slipped and bumped the chair.  The whole length of my pinky nail broke right off.  So now my pinky is a super nub, and I had to file all my other nails down too. Well, they had a good run while it lasted...

In other news, today I have a manicure that I have been thinkign about for a long time.  A while ago I picked up Zoya's Jacqueline and Godiva and the same time.  I loved the cream and nude colors and I tried hard to think of a way that I could wear them together.  Then I got inspired by Lawless Lacquer and her signature look of color blocking with 2 similar colored polished in a cream and textured finish.

Look Book: B&W Peplum

I love taking outfit photos at Ben's dad's house. His whole back yard is a photographer's dream! He has over grown tennis courts, a brick fire pit, an old chicken coop, a pond, a creek, and lots of green grass and tress...all just in his yard.  I love going there and getting to choose a beautiful backdrop to take pictures.  However, we didn't travel 2 and a half hours to Pennsylvania just so I could take photos, it was Ben's cousin's wedding last weekend.  Of course that means dressing up, and that means a Look Book post.  I decided to wear another peplum dress that my mom got for me for my birthday.  I always get so inspired taking outfit pictures at Ben's house that my inner model tends to come out.

Hello glorious day! Why am I so happy you ask? Well that's because Lady Gaga's new album, ARTPOP, is out, and I have been thoroughly enjoying listening to it for the past two days. It is very different from her older albums, and less conventional, but its amazing. I feel like its a journey through her mind. Hey, you can't visit a blog called Claws Up, written by LittleMonsterx14, and not get the full Lady Gaga news!  Also, one of the song on the album is called MANiCURE*.  WORLDS COLLIDE!!!

Today I have a manicure that I have been dying to do for ages, and I'm finally able to do it.  I have seen Louboutin nails popping up on Pinterest for a while, and finally...FINALLY, my nails have grown long enough to paint the underside!  Of course I needed to include the classic Louboutin look, but a plain black mani isn't really my speed.  I remember seeing these Louboutin's and I knew I had found the winner.

Mix & Match Makeup Looks Colorful Gradient and Glitter

I want to start off by saying that yesterday was my 2 YEAR BLOGIVERSARY!!! Actually, it nearly took me by surprise. With everything going on around here, I almost forgot about it. Luckily, I did have something special planned for today, the start of a new installment on the blog. And what better time to reveal it than on my blogiversary?

I actually mentioned in my last post that I had a surprise for you. If you guessed that my new feature was going to be a series of nail and makeup matching posts then you guessed right! That's right, "Mix & Match" will feature a matching nail and makeup look. You saw my nail colorful gradient and glitter look, now its time to match it to my makeup!

Mix & Match: Colorful Gradient and Glitter

As you guys can tell from reading my blog posts, I am pretty much and indie noob. I only have a handful of them.  I think they are all so gorgeous, but I can never make the jump to actually buy them. Luckily my birthday just passed, and even more luckily, my birthday is right after Halloween. That means I knew I wanted an awesome Halloween indie for my birthday. My wonderful brother generously gave me Red Dog Dead Man's Party.  This polish had everything I had been lemming for so long: neon glitters, and awesomely shaped glitter. I wanted to match this with something colorful and fun, so I opted for a pink and orange gradient.

Makeup Looks: NYC Individual Eyes Union Square

Hey lovelies!  I'm still trucking along my birthday related posts. On today's agenda is my makeup look that I wore to go out to dinner.  I wanted something classic and beautiful to reflect my dress. I decided to use the NYC eyeshadow pallet I won in a giveaway from Nancy over at The Dark Side of Beauty. This was actually the first time I used all the shadows together as they were intended, so I thought it would be appropriate to review the pallet.

Look Book: My 24th Birthday!

I hope you are all prepared for lots of upcoming posts!  My birthday weekend always yields a whole bunch of blog posts: Halloween outfit, Halloween makeup, birthday nails, birthday outfit, birthday makeup, and the inevitable posts of  the nail polish that people buy me for my birthday. We are about half way through the list, and on the agenda today is my birthday outfit.

The dress I wore out was not just a dress to wear ifor my birthday, but it was also one of the gifts that my mom got me this year. My mom and I have both been into peplum this year, and she was kind enough to stock my collection, getting me FOUR new peplum pieces! I decided to wear one of my new dresses.

Halloween Thirteen

Hello everyone.

Right now its Sunday morning, and I am half asleep. I had a fun, but super late night out on my birfdai, which really lacked sleep. I am a little delirious and don't know how well I will be able to formulate thoughts. However, today I wanted to show you my costume, and some photos from Halloween, and tell you about my awesome night.

I am going to sum up the highlights of the night:

  • I had an awesome time dancing to good music at the bar
  • I was chosen to be in a costume contest
  • I won second place in said costume contest
  • I lost the contest to a girl that was 6 feet tall and carried me around the stage
  • The DJ played The Time Warp, of course I did the dance
  • I look over and a girl was also Time Warping with me, high fives commenced afterward
Enjoy some photos!

My 24th Birthday Nails - Dia De Los Muertos

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MEEEEEEE! I know I have said it a million times, but today is my 24th birthday! I am just super excited about it. I actually hate getting older, but its nice to go out and have some fun.  I have to work today, but that's OK because I can't wait to see what the rest of the day holds.

Just like last year, I went for Dia De Los Muertos nails for my birthday. First off, you all know I love Halloween, so its awesome that there's another similar holiday during the two days after. Its like I get to keep celebrating a little more. And, of course, because my birthday is on the day of the dead. I might not have a birthday on Halloween (which would be the best ever) but its just about the next best thing.

Makeup Looks: Eye of the Leopard

Helloooooo ladies!  I know this post is a little later than my usual posts, but I have so much to share with you over the course of this weekend that this post just couldn't wait 'til tomorrow.  Of course, last night was Halloween, and then tomorrow is my 24th birthday! There are so many awesome things all packed into a few days!

Today I want to show you my Halloween make up. This year I was a leopard, and my boyfriend, Ben, was a zoo keeper. Since I was a leopard I needed some awesome leopard makeup, and since it was Halloween, I needed to go all out!

Makeup Looks: Candy Corn

Hey ladies!  Are you excited for Halloween? Its only one day away and I know I just can't wait! I will be sad when its all over and I will have to wait a whole year to celebrate my favorite holiday again.  The only good thing about Halloween being over is that my birthday is two days after.

Today I bring you my second Halloween makeup look. I am really enjoying working out my makeup muscles lately. I have always had a love for makeup, but its great getting to try out even more fun looks and seeing what else I create.

While I was doing my last Halloween makeup look, I realized that I have white, orange, and yellow eyeshadows. My Halloween oriented brain instantly thought "I have the colors to make the most classic of all the Halloween candies"! No, not Reese's (which is my favorite candy), but candy corn. I actually hate candy corn. It is flavorless and waxy, and I don't get how people think it tastes good. The only thing I like about it is that it reminds me of Halloween, and I pretty much like anything that is related to the holiday.

I'm Walking into Spiderwebs

Hey everyone. You might have noticed that my blog looks a little different. I spent my day off yesterday changing my blog's look.  I have also decided to go in a new direction regarding my blog's content. Don't worry, I will still be showcasing my nail art, but I want to expand to more Look Book and Makeup Looks posts.  I have decided to go from being a primarily nail blog, to a beauty blog.  Not too much will change, and I am still keeping the name "Claws Up", except that I will be adding more makeup and fashion posts. I really hope you will like the new changes :)

Some bad news, when I was changing my blog, I ended up losing my Disqus comments. I am trying to get them back, but I worried that they might be lost forever. Hopefully by the time this post comes out they will be back, but there is a possibility they wont :( If you guys have experience with Disqus, I would appreciate any help!

Onto the nails!

Sticking with my October filled with Halloween, I decided to go for some spiderweb nails.

Makeup Looks: Spider Eye

Hey guys. So as I mentioned, I finally did my first Halloween makeup look of the year! I don't know why its taken me so long. I love Halloween, I love crazy and fun makeup, it seemed like the most logical progression. I have really been into experimenting more with make up. I have always loved makeup, and I am never afraid of going out with colorful makeup on, but lately I have been getting into makeup art. I have already added makeup and fashion to my blog, but I am excited to work on my makeup skills and do even more makeup posts.

For today's look I decided to go for simple, Halloween colors, with a festive twist.

A French Halloween

Oh boy, I thoroughly enjoyed my day off yesterday. I painted my nails AND my toes, created a Halloween make up look (finally!!), used my crock pot for the first time, and even surprised Ben at his job for lunch!

Have you ever had a vision for a manicure, hated it, then absolutist loved the re-do? Well that's what happened to me. I started off with what I thought would be a cool idea, hated it, and ended up doing something I totally loved. You guys all really liked my Franken-French nails, so I decided I wanted to go for another Halloween French look. I am just loving the Halloween nail stickers my mom got me. I, sadly, have not been as inspired this October, so its great having these nail stickers. Just slap them on and I have an instant Halloween mani!

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

Hello everyone! Oh boy I am so happy that I'm actually able to post right now. After I got back from my trip visiting home in NY (which was really fun and awesome BTW), I came down with a pretty bad cold. On top of that, because I took off 3 days to go to NY, I have to work two 13-hour long days to make up my hours, bleh. What a week to get sick, but I'm lucky I wasn't sick in NY, and that I wont be sick the week of Halloween/my birthday. With feeling poopy from being sick, and feeling poopy from being tired from working, I am surprised that I was able to get up the energy to write this post. I reallyyyyy wanted to do my nails yesterday, but it just wasn't in the cards. Hopefully I can recover quickly so I can do my nails again, and blog some more! Keeping with Halloween month, I decided to go for a Frankenstein inspired French.

Glowing Jack

Hey guys! I hope everyone has been enjoying their October. October is my very favorite month, and I love to spend it celebrating Halloween...all month long. Of course that means Halloween nails.  I usually look forward to loads and loads of Halloween looks.  Unfortunately this October has come a long with lots of different stresses that need to take priority over my nails. I'm not only sad that I can't give my blog more attention, I am also sad I can't fully enjoy my October, which is something  look forward too all year long. I am not sure when things will get better around here. It might even creep into November, past my birthday, through Thanksgiving and Chanukkah, and into the next year.  I will do my best to let you guys know what's going on.

On to something less sad.  Before all this stuff went down, Ben and I got to spend the weekend visiting my dad in Ocean City, MD.  He was competing in the regional barbershop chorus competition...yes you read that correctly. My dad has been signing barbershop for 10 years. I wasn't expecting any special vacation going to the beach in October, but it ended up being 85 degrees!  It was so nice to walk the boardwalk, and even go to the beach.  It felt a little funny rocking my Halloween nails at the beach :-P

Orange Halloween

Hey ladies! I hope you all had a nice week. While I have been super busy, I am doing my best to enjoy my favorite month! Now some of you might find it strange that I have a favorite month, but October is just filled with my favorite things. I love the cooling weather, changing leaves, pumpkin everything, and Halloween. I pretty much have just decided that all of October is Halloween, and I will celebrate as such!

My mom knows my love of all things nails and Halloween, so you can imagine how thrilled I was when she mailed me Halloween nail stickers by Kiss. I actually screamed a little bit. So for my first October (aka Halloween) mani, I decided to embrace the orange and get Halloween ready!

Acid Washed Neons

Hey guys, I'm back!!!!!

First off, I want to apologize for being such a stinky blogger.  I have a lot of things going on in my non-blogging life that decided to take over. Work has been pretty stressful, on top of that I have been working over 40 hours every week. I have something else going on that I can't tell you about right now, but that pretty much ate up all of the little free time that I had. I had become 5 days behind in reading all of your blogs, and pretty much decided that my own blogs needed to take a mini vacation while I got caught up with everything else I needed too.  I am still pretty busy, but I have honestly really missed writing. I would just write things in my head, and I knew I needed to give my blog some love, so here I am!

I am going to try hard to get back to my 2 post a week schedule, however I am not sure how well that will go. While I have been so busy with everything, I also took a break from doing my nails. While I would love to WRITE more posts, that is all dependent on how often I can sit down and do my nails. However, if you are still interested in reading what I have to say, I'll still be posting twice a week on my food blog.

So enough of all this sad talk, I know you want to see my nails, and they want to see you too!

These are the nails I wore for Ben's birthday weekend. I used the acid wash technique using black, and different neon colors underneath.

Red Ombre

Hey ladies! Hope you all had a great week. I am actually in PA right now visiting Ben's family for his birthday weekend.

Today I have a manicure that I have been wanting to try out for the longest time. The ombre look has really gained popularity, especially in hair and fashion. As a nail lover, I noticed something weird happening.  When it came to nails, the ombre look was each nail painted a different consecutive color, and a gradient was the transition from one color to another on the same nail.  However, in fashion, the word "ombre" was used to describe what us nail junkies call a gradient.

No matter what you call it, I always thought the ombre nail look was really cool. Like I said, I have been wanting to try it for a while, but I didn't have enough of one color polish to make it look right, until now. I was going through my collection and saw I had 5 red polishes all going consecutively from light to dark! It was funny that I had so many red polishes, because I few years ago red was the one color that I hated to wear on my nails! I thought it made me look like I was 80 years old, or an 8 year old trying to look like a grown up. But I guess red polish has finally grown on me!

Lightning Strike

Hey Ladies! How are you all doing? Today I have a manicure that was inpsired by a YouTube tutorial. I thought these lightning nails looked so cool. They kind of reminded me of galaxy nails, but easier to do. I love galaxy nails, but every time I try them they just don't look like space! I don't get how to make them look so realistic like you girls can. I thought maybe trying lightning nails would be a way for me do do a cool look and hopefully have it look real! Let's see if I accomplished that!

Look Book: Mint Will be Very Big in Fashion Next Spring

Hey everyone and happy Friday the 13th! Hope you all had a great week and have fun plans for the weekend.  Starting at sunset today, and sunset on Saturday, is Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur is the Jewish day of atonement, and the way we atone is by fasting. Yep, no food or water for 25 hours. On top of that, we can't brush our teeth, shower, or wash our hands. Which means I only have a few hours to do my nails and wash my hair before I have to give it up all of Saturday. But before I do that, I am going horseback riding today with my friend from work! She actually lives on a small horse farm, and we are going to ride her own horses. I am super excited! I just need to be home before sunset.

Today I have an outfit post of one of my favorite summer outfits. Sometimes I'll put an outfit together, and I'll love it to much I keep wearing the same outfit whenever I go out. Its no secret that mint has been a big color lately. I always giggle when I see people talking about mint, because before anyone cared about the color, Lady Gaga said in the beginning of her music video for Marry The Night that "mint will be very big in fashion this spring." Low and behold, the spring after the video came out, mint blew up the fashion world, and its still really popular. Lady Gaga is not only a musical genius, but also a fashion genius. Anyway, I'm sure you are sick of reading and would rather look at outfit photos.

An Apple a Day

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a nice weekend. Sadly I had to work Saturday AND Sunday, but luckily I was off on Friday. Ben and I have been talking about going apple picking all summer and with fall just around the corner, it was the perfect time for apples. We had so much fun! The weather was perfect and I loved getting to pick our own fruit. I have been wanting to try these apple nails done by Taya: My Little Beauty World for a while, so I thought it was only appropriate to give it a go!

These ARE the nails you're looking for!

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a nice week. Today I have a manicure that I have been wanting to do for a while. My big brother is the ultimate Star Wars nerd. And since I love my brother, I love Star Wars too. David and I loved going to see the (new) movies in theaters and talking about how we are both on the Dark Side. He even used to call me Darth Jax. I find it funny that we both decided we are on the Dark Side, just another thing we have in common. Anakin would have to be my favorite character. I love watching him go from the Light, to the Dark Side.

Anyway, I'm sure most of you don't want to read about Star Wars, but I know you would love to see some nails.

Tuesday, September 3, 2013

Hey ladies! I hope you all had a nice long weekend. Its wasn't long for me, since I worked on both Sunday and Monday. I have another manicure today brought to you by Pinterest. I often browse Pinterest when I have finished reading blogs, and I am still on the nail art train. Next stop: Pinterest. Its a great place to find inspiration for almost anything. I had been seeing a lot of manicures inspired by turquoise (the stone, not the color), using the water splatter technique. I am usually too lazy to do things like water spotted/marble, gradients, or splatter, because if the inevitable massive clean up, but I was feeling up for it so I decided to try my hand (HA!) at the turquoise mani.

Makeup Looks: Oxidizing

Hey guys. I had a pretty long and stressful week at work. I'm really tired, but happy to have two days off. I wanted to share with you guys a makeup look that a did last week. After doing my Princess Zelda makeup look, I wanted to try it out again, but with a different color. I opted for mint, since I am really loving it right now.

Matte About Foils

Hey guys. I know that this is usually the section where I talk about what's going on in my life. My favorite blogs are ones that are not just about the nails, but when bloggers share a little about themselves too. I have tried to keep my blog an open journal, mixed in with nails, fashion, and makeup. However, right now work is causing me a great deal of stress. I am losing sleep, feeling sick, and getting headaches. Now I would normally tell you what's going on, but with the amount of stress it brings, I am trying to not think about it. So to take my mind off of what's going on, I am going to go right into the nails.

I decided to play around with my foils again. I started with my very first butter LONDON! While I was visiting my brother in Texas, he and his wife bought me my first bottle, and I have finally gotten around to trying it. This is butter LONDON in British Racing Green. I added some random foils, and then decided to make it matte.

Look Book: One Dress Three Ways

Hey everyone. Just a quick post today, I'm pretty tired with all the craziness going on at work. Just to update you guys, with my manager out on medical leave, the district manager has made me the intern manager (with another store's manager acting as our supervisor). It comes with a lot of additional stress, plus some backlash from other employees that don't feel I deserve the position. I'm constantly stressed, and now I need to work about 10 additional hours per week leaving me tired and lacking free time.

Luckily, before this all happened, Ben and I managed to find some time to go out for sushi, fro-yo, and to see Kick-Ass 2. I decided to wear my new denim dress that I got from Khol's.  What I love about denim dresses is that they are like blank canvasses. Like jeans, they can be paired with anything. I had fun trying out different ways to wear my dress before I decided on the winner.

While I am a city girl, I have been liking the country fashions that have been trending. I paired my denim dress with a tied off plaid shirt, and brown boots for a country feel.

Hey everyone. Today I have a nail look inspired by chi chi!

Just kidding!  This is week 2 in The Dark Side of Beauty's Legend of Zelda challenge month, and this week's theme is the Chuchu. They are really cute and very colorful little guys, but every time I see the name, I think of the prison food chi chi.

Makeup Looks: Princess Zelda

Hey everyone! Sorry I have been a bad blogger lately. I have been working a lot, especially because with our manager gone, I have taken on a lot of her roles. I might have to keep my blogging to 1-2 posts a week, since by the time I get home from work I am usually pretty tired. We'll see. Don't worry, I will always keep posting!

Today's post is actually my first post in a new challenge created by The Dark Side of Beauty.  Every month Nancy will pick a theme that bloggers can create makeup or nails looks for. Within each month, each week will have a specific subject. We have a week to complete looks for each subject.  This month's theme is The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, and this first month's subject is Princess Zelda.  I decided to go for a pink and gold makeup look inspired by her dress and jewelry.

Sephora by OPI 212

Hey everyone, I hope you are all doing well. Things are pretty stressful and busy around here.  I don't want to go into it too much, but the manager at my job is very sick, and may not be coming back to work. We are terribly understaffed now, and my manager, as well as the district manager, is putting a lot of the responsibilities on me.  I'm scared for what the future is going to hold.

With the busy weekend, and the stressful week, I wasn't able to get any nail art done. However I do have a swatch for you today. As many of you know, OPI is discontinuing the Sephora line. I didn't think much of it, but my mom can't pass up a deal. She told me that all of the Sephora by OPIs were going on sale and she would buy me any ones I want! I picked out two polishes, one of them being 212. Not only is 212 a gorgeous glitter polish, but it is inspired by the beautiful lights of my city at night: New York.

Guest Post on Nail Treasures

Hey everyone!  I hope you all had a nice weekend. This weekend my dad came to visit me in my new apartment in Virginia for the first time since I moved. It was nice seeing my dad, I miss him already.

Today I am guest posting on the lovely blog, Nail Treasures. I hope you all go over there and check it out :)

Evil Eye

Hey everyone! I hope you are all enjoying your weekend.  Right now my dad is here visiting me from New York! It is the first time I have seen my dad since I moved to Virginia about 6 weeks ago. While I have been enjoying living on my own, of course I miss my dad! We are spending the weekend just hanging out and being tourists in DC.

Today I have a manicure that I have been thinking about doing for a while. My mom's side of my family is from Greece, and I am really proud of my Greek heritage. I love the food and the culture. Being Greek is a big part of my identity, and being Greek and Jewish makes me feel unique.  The evil eye is a pretty common symbol in Greek, and other middle eastern cultures.  A bead with a blue eye on it is said to protect you from evil spirits. The evil eye is important to my mom and I. Not only is it for protection, but also to keep us connected to our Greek roots.

Pre-Paint Prepping

Hey everyone! I was to start off by apologizing for not being a great blogger recently. I have been working a lot, and when I'm not working, I am too tired to do my nails or write a blog post.  I promise to keep painting my nails and writing posts, they just may not be as frequent as they used to be. Don't worry I am still here!

For today's post I have something a bit different. I decided to show you all the prep work that goes into my nails before its time to paint them. I have gathered information from bloggers, YouTubers, and magazines and I have found a routine that works best for me. So get ready for some NSFW photos, here are my naked nails!

Of course I start by removing my old nail polish.  I use 100% acetone. This one is CVS brand, which I usually buy because it is the cheapest one.

Next, I soak my fingers in a cup of warm water, soap, and oil. This helps soften my nails and cuticles, as well as clean and re-nourish my nails after the harsh acetone.

I use whatever hand soap that we happen to have in the house. The oil I use is Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Miracle Dry Oil. It is full of oils that are great for your nail and skin, and it smells amazing.

I then remove the dead skin around my nails with my amazing cuticle stone.  I bought this stone stick at the Dental Convention (yes, I said Dental Convention) about 10 years ago and have been obsessed with it ever since. It gently removes excess skin around my nails without chemicals or clipping my cuticles. I just rub the stone around my cuticles until most of the dead skin comes loose. Sorry for the gross photo.

Then its time to file my nails. I have been keeping them in an oval/almond shape. I just use a plain cardboard nail file that I got in a pack from CVS.

At this point my nails are covered in oil, skin, and nail dust. I wash my hands really well to make sure there are no particles or oil left on my nails, then I dry my hands.

Its finally base coat time! I have been using OPI Matte Nail Envy.

My final prep step is to rub in Barielle Nail Strengthening Cream to all my nails and cuticles. It really helps to keep my nails strong and healthy.

Whew, that's it! Now I can paint my nails.  I find doing this process helps to keep my nails feeling healthy between polishes.

Did you like seeing how I prep my nail? What do you do to get your nail ready for your next manicure?

Claws Up!
