Rue Beaute Layered Polish

Hey everyone, I hope you are all having a good week!  I only have a week left at my job before I take some time off to get ready to move, and then the big day comes in a month!  While some days I absolutely hate my job ad most of the people, I love all the doggies I got to meet and bond with, and I have made a couple of really good friends.  One girl that I'm really close with, Michelle, is really sweet.  We love talking about food and going out and she is always asking me "what's on your nails today?"  She surprised me a few days ago with a bottle of nail polish that she picked up for me, and I knew I needed to try it before I left work for good.

 photo 014_zpsc209a7dc.jpg

I'm going to do things a little different and start with the bottle shot.  This is an unnamed neon layered polish by Rue Beaute.  I LOVE each of the neon colors in the bottle, but I have always been a bit skeptical of layered polishes.  I'm worries they will mix together and that it will be impossible to get any colors out besides the top one.

 photo 009_zps8994f0bf.jpg

 photo 011_zps39c1dda3.jpg

Since these are neons, I started with some white undies which ended up being a brilliant idea.  Now I only needed one layer of the polish which prevented the colors from mixing too much.  The bottle also says not to mix, but that resulted in only getting to the purple layer.

 photo 012_zpsc50d2aa6.jpg

 photo 013_zps9ac73c51.jpg

In order to get more of the layers, I actually tilted the bottle quite a bit and dipped the brush into the exposed colors.  It actually worked out really well.  I did my left hand first so I just reached the green, but once I got to my right hand I got some really nice streaks!  So for a rare occasion, I'll show you my right hand!

 photo 017_zps475a8faa.jpg

Don't make fun of it! My nails are a lot shorter and uneven on my right hand, plus I am terrible at painting it.  But you can see how cool the colors came out!

I am excited to keep using this polish and seeing how each layer of colors comes out!

Have your tried layered polish yet? What do you think?

4 Years Together

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great Memorial day weekend and that the weather stayed nice for whatever your plans were. Yesterday was actually my 4 year anniversary with my boyfriend, but unfortunately due to our schedules, we could only see each other on Saturday.  Since we only had a little bit of time together, Ben planned a surprise date for us and kept it a secret.  When I drove into his driveway Saturday morning, he made me get right in his car, and off we were to a secret location.

We ended up going to the Philly zoo! We both really love zoos, and luckily the weather was relatively nice, so it was a really great way to spend our anniversary.

 photo 007_zpsf8dd49ea.jpg

Ben took me into the building that nightmares are made of: the reptile house. I am terrified of snakes, and the Philly zoo has lots of them.  I did manage to sneak a peek into a tank and found this turtle and lizard making a heart. I guess it was appropriate on our anniversary.

 photo 011_zpsce7dc384.jpg

Since Ben made me go into the reptile house, I retaliated by making him go into the petting zoo! Who says t he children's zoo is just for kids? Well I guess the zoo does. But I am a kid at heart! I loved getting to pet the sheep and goats.

 photo 055_zps46f3ff0b.jpg

We spotted some hungry, hungry hippos.

 photo 058_zps7b38633d.jpg

The rhino and zebra were all getting along until the rhino stopped eating. Then the zebras high-tailed it out of there!

 photo 070_zpsc867d975.jpg

This bear was enjoying the nice day :)

After the zoo, we went back to Ben's place to change for dinner at one of my favorite places to eat, The Melting Pot. (For more on our dinner, you can check out my other blog on Wednesday).

 photo 075_zps549c9c60.jpg

The day had its ups and downs, but there is no one else I would rather have spent it with than Ben. Thanks for the amazing day, and 4 years.  Can't wait to see what this year brings!

How did you spend your Memorial day weekend?

Heart Nails for a Special Occasion

Hello ladies and happy Memorial day weekend!  I hope you guys have fun plans.  It has actually been raining quite a bit here and I really hope the rain stops so it doesn't ruin my weekend plans.  Monday is actually my 4 year anniversary with my boyfriend, but since I have to work holidays, I wasn't able to get out of work to visit him, so we are celebrating a bit early this weekend. I'm on my way to PA now, and this rain better clear out!

I wanted some nails to match the important day for me and Ben. I have some heart glitter that I have been wanting to use, and I feel like I should only ear hearts for heart themed occasions, so what better than my anniversary?

I apologize for the lack of photos, and the poopy quality.  Since it has been so grey and rainy, it was super hard to capture this mani in photos :( Also I got a booboo on my finger and it made my feel self conscious about my hands. Ah, problems of a nail blogger...

Sinful Colors in Orange Cream

Orange Cream is from the Sugar Rush collection. When looking for the base color for my heart mani is instantly jumped at me from my polish drawer, hit me in the head, and knocked me out for several hours. When I came to, I saw this beauty laying there and took her back to my place, cooked her dinner, and we stared into each other's eyes all night long. This is such a beautiful peachy color, with just the slightest bit of shimmer (which I couldn't really capture in these photos due to the crappy lighting).

In the end I love this simple, but pretty manicure. Perfect for an anniversary weekend, I hope the rain doesn't kill our plans!

What do you think of my heart mani? And Orange Cream?

NYC Skyline

Hello everyone!  As you guys know I had been feeling sick lately.  I'm not all better yet, but I've been trying to eat foods that are better on my tummy so that I can feel back to normal soon.  Luckily I felt well enough for some nail art, and I have been itching to do some!

I am a proud New Yorker! I'll talk to you more abut my love for this great state in a future post, but I knew that I needed to do some NYC Skyline nails to represent the city I love so much.  I found these nails on Pinterest and it was nail-love at first sight.

1. After applying your base coat, apply a shimmery orange polish.
2. Using a small angled brush dipped in black polish, paint the outline of the buildings. Make each building a different height for a more realistic look.
3. Fill in the buildings with your black polish.
4. Using your smallest dotting tool, add white dots for the lights on your tallest buildings. Clean up, and top coat it. All done!

I can't tell you enough how much I loved this.  Sparkle and Soar is so gorgeous, and it made the background to my skyline look like a brilliant NY sunset.

Do you love NYC as much as I do?

Starry Starry Night Doggy Prom!

Hey everyone! I'm still working on catching up on blogging, and just life in general, so I might be rocking some more basic manis until I have more time to get back into the swing of nail art.

As you may know, I work at a doggy day care, and yesterday was doggy prom! No I'm serious. The doggies came in all dressed up, they each had a date, we took couples photos, and even crowned a king and queen.  All the staff had to come in in prom attire as well. And what does that mean to me? Prom nails!  The theme was starry starry night, so I thought it was the perfect time to use my knew polish I picked up in Texas.

Wet n Wild Fergie in Hollywood Walk of Fame

Berry Blue is such a gorgeous dark blue that its almost black! It was the perfect background for some stars! Hollywood Walk of Fame was a little difficult to work with, I had to use the dab method to get the stars out.

I have a few photos of doggy prom, if you would like to take a look they are after the jump.

Nail Mail and Texas Haul

Hey guys! Sorry I have been so absent.  I just came back from my trip to Texas yesterday, and then went right to work after I landed in New York.  Just a quick post today because I am so exhausted and ridiculously busy catching up on life, plus working 6 days in a row this week.  Hopefully after a few days I can get back to my normal blogging self...that is until its time to move to Virginia!

First off I wanted to show you the amazing nail mail that I so generously got from Dulcie of ohthreeohfour.  It all started when she saw my post about wanting to be a dog trainer one day.  She herself used to be a dog trainer and ever since then we have been emailing back and forth, and I have to say she has become a really good friend.  She is really the sweetest girl and has given me so much of her time helping me with becoming a dog trainer, and now sending me an amazing package of goodies!  I am really astonished by the amount of care and generosity she has shown me, I am so appreciative and thankful to call her my friend :)

 photo 040_zps2cbf5a75.jpg

That little sneak! She asked me if I wanted her to decant a Lynderella for me. I said no because that really is way to much to give to me, but apparently she didn't listen.  She's the best :)

 photo 041_zpsf2b92163.jpg

She even sent me some other nail goodies, including 100% vegan jojoba oil, because she knows I'm a vegetarian.  Dulcie REALLY is the sweetest!

I also picked up a few polishes while I was in Texas.

 photo 042_zps3d3e69a6.jpg

A couple of Wet n Wilds from the Fergie collection, and...my very first butter LONDON!!!! I saw them on display in a little store and I knew I had to get on that! They also had Deborah Lippmanns, it was hard limiting myself!

I'll do my best to catch up with all the things I need to get done so I have get back to some more regular blogging.

What do you think of my haul? Which are your favorite polishes?

Acid Wash Jeans

Hey everyone! I hope you are all excited for the weekend. Right now I am on my way to Texas to visit my brother!  I feel like I have barely been home since I have been out of town the last 2 weekends, but its for good reasons :) I love my big bro and I can't wait to spend some time with him and my sister in law.  Since I'll be in Texas all weekend, I thought rocking some acid wash jean nails would be a fitting look. I have never tried them before, but I have seen them all over Pinterest and Youtube and I loved the look!

 photo 2417c044-745e-454a-a65e-f6b1c00902be_zps47aa7cdd.jpg

1. Paint your nails with a dark blue polish. Optional: Add a layer of top coat.
2. Once your nails are completely dry, paint 1 layer of white polish on, and wait for your nails to dry again.
3. Using a q-tip dipped in acetone, gently swipe your nails, remove the white layer.  Keep in mind you want this to look realistic by unevenly removing the white layer, so swipe some areas of your nail more often than others.
4. Clean up, and add a layer of your favorite matte top coat for a more authentic jeans look. All done!

The Line Up:

 photo 013_zpsc929afca.jpg
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in White On
Julep in Millie

I thought that Julep polish was so gorgeous when I got it! That shade of blue reminded me of denim so I knew I wanted to use it to create acid wash jeans nails. I wanted to show you this polish on its own too.

 photo 002_zpsd17cfa9f.jpg

How beautiful is this? Its such a unique, and perfect blue. Kind of like a dusty royal color. I almost didn't want to cover it up, I will definilty be wearing this beauty on its own too!

I loved this grunge look, the acid wash is a really cool effect and super easy to do!

What do you think of this acid washed look? Will you be trying it out too?

Avery Connected the Dots

Hey everyone! I got back last night from my trip to Pennsylvania to watch my boyfriend Ben, and his sister, graduate college!  It was such a beautiful weekend and it was great getting to spend time with Ben and his family.  I had a full day of travel yesterday and when I got hope I really needed a manicure but I was too tired to do anything too fancy. When it doubt I go to my favorites: neons and glitter!

 photo 125_zpsfa1ff1f9.jpg

I love the combination of hot pink, black, and white. Its girly, but not over the top, and all the colors really stand out together! CTD is such an amazing glitter too, I can't stop looking at my hands, I don't want to take my polish off!
