Makeup Looks: Oxidizing

Hey guys. I had a pretty long and stressful week at work. I'm really tired, but happy to have two days off. I wanted to share with you guys a makeup look that a did last week. After doing my Princess Zelda makeup look, I wanted to try it out again, but with a different color. I opted for mint, since I am really loving it right now.

Matte About Foils

Hey guys. I know that this is usually the section where I talk about what's going on in my life. My favorite blogs are ones that are not just about the nails, but when bloggers share a little about themselves too. I have tried to keep my blog an open journal, mixed in with nails, fashion, and makeup. However, right now work is causing me a great deal of stress. I am losing sleep, feeling sick, and getting headaches. Now I would normally tell you what's going on, but with the amount of stress it brings, I am trying to not think about it. So to take my mind off of what's going on, I am going to go right into the nails.

I decided to play around with my foils again. I started with my very first butter LONDON! While I was visiting my brother in Texas, he and his wife bought me my first bottle, and I have finally gotten around to trying it. This is butter LONDON in British Racing Green. I added some random foils, and then decided to make it matte.

Look Book: One Dress Three Ways

Hey everyone. Just a quick post today, I'm pretty tired with all the craziness going on at work. Just to update you guys, with my manager out on medical leave, the district manager has made me the intern manager (with another store's manager acting as our supervisor). It comes with a lot of additional stress, plus some backlash from other employees that don't feel I deserve the position. I'm constantly stressed, and now I need to work about 10 additional hours per week leaving me tired and lacking free time.

Luckily, before this all happened, Ben and I managed to find some time to go out for sushi, fro-yo, and to see Kick-Ass 2. I decided to wear my new denim dress that I got from Khol's.  What I love about denim dresses is that they are like blank canvasses. Like jeans, they can be paired with anything. I had fun trying out different ways to wear my dress before I decided on the winner.

#1 Country Chic
While I am a city girl, I have been liking the country fashions that have been trending. I paired my denim dress with a tied off plaid shirt, and brown boots for a country feel.

Chuchu's

Hey everyone. Today I have a nail look inspired by chi chi!

Just kidding!  This is week 2 in The Dark Side of Beauty's Legend of Zelda challenge month, and this week's theme is the Chuchu. They are really cute and very colorful little guys, but every time I see the name, I think of the prison food chi chi.

Makeup Looks: Princess Zelda

Hey everyone! Sorry I have been a bad blogger lately. I have been working a lot, especially because with our manager gone, I have taken on a lot of her roles. I might have to keep my blogging to 1-2 posts a week, since by the time I get home from work I am usually pretty tired. We'll see. Don't worry, I will always keep posting!

Today's post is actually my first post in a new challenge created by The Dark Side of Beauty.  Every month Nancy will pick a theme that bloggers can create makeup or nails looks for. Within each month, each week will have a specific subject. We have a week to complete looks for each subject.  This month's theme is The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, and this first month's subject is Princess Zelda.  I decided to go for a pink and gold makeup look inspired by her dress and jewelry.

Sephora by OPI 212

Hey everyone, I hope you are all doing well. Things are pretty stressful and busy around here.  I don't want to go into it too much, but the manager at my job is very sick, and may not be coming back to work. We are terribly understaffed now, and my manager, as well as the district manager, is putting a lot of the responsibilities on me.  I'm scared for what the future is going to hold.

With the busy weekend, and the stressful week, I wasn't able to get any nail art done. However I do have a swatch for you today. As many of you know, OPI is discontinuing the Sephora line. I didn't think much of it, but my mom can't pass up a deal. She told me that all of the Sephora by OPIs were going on sale and she would buy me any ones I want! I picked out two polishes, one of them being 212. Not only is 212 a gorgeous glitter polish, but it is inspired by the beautiful lights of my city at night: New York.

Evil Eye

Hey everyone! I hope you are all enjoying your weekend.  Right now my dad is here visiting me from New York! It is the first time I have seen my dad since I moved to Virginia about 6 weeks ago. While I have been enjoying living on my own, of course I miss my dad! We are spending the weekend just hanging out and being tourists in DC.

Today I have a manicure that I have been thinking about doing for a while. My mom's side of my family is from Greece, and I am really proud of my Greek heritage. I love the food and the culture. Being Greek is a big part of my identity, and being Greek and Jewish makes me feel unique.  The evil eye is a pretty common symbol in Greek, and other middle eastern cultures.  A bead with a blue eye on it is said to protect you from evil spirits. The evil eye is important to my mom and I. Not only is it for protection, but also to keep us connected to our Greek roots.

Pre-Paint Prepping

Hey everyone! I was to start off by apologizing for not being a great blogger recently. I have been working a lot, and when I'm not working, I am too tired to do my nails or write a blog post.  I promise to keep painting my nails and writing posts, they just may not be as frequent as they used to be. Don't worry I am still here!

For today's post I have something a bit different. I decided to show you all the prep work that goes into my nails before its time to paint them. I have gathered information from bloggers, YouTubers, and magazines and I have found a routine that works best for me. So get ready for some NSFW photos, here are my naked nails!

 photo 040_zpsf80b005f.jpg

Of course I start by removing my old nail polish.  I use 100% acetone. This one is CVS brand, which I usually buy because it is the cheapest one.

Next, I soak my fingers in a cup of warm water, soap, and oil. This helps soften my nails and cuticles, as well as clean and re-nourish my nails after the harsh acetone.

 photo 064_zpsa8c06ef4.jpg

I use whatever hand soap that we happen to have in the house. The oil I use is Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Miracle Dry Oil. It is full of oils that are great for your nail and skin, and it smells amazing.

I then remove the dead skin around my nails with my amazing cuticle stone.  I bought this stone stick at the Dental Convention (yes, I said Dental Convention) about 10 years ago and have been obsessed with it ever since. It gently removes excess skin around my nails without chemicals or clipping my cuticles. I just rub the stone around my cuticles until most of the dead skin comes loose. Sorry for the gross photo.

Then its time to file my nails. I have been keeping them in an oval/almond shape. I just use a plain cardboard nail file that I got in a pack from CVS.

At this point my nails are covered in oil, skin, and nail dust. I wash my hands really well to make sure there are no particles or oil left on my nails, then I dry my hands.

Its finally base coat time! I have been using OPI Matte Nail Envy.

My final prep step is to rub in Barielle Nail Strengthening Cream to all my nails and cuticles. It really helps to keep my nails strong and healthy.

 photo 053_zpsf7baf9b1.jpg

Whew, that's it! Now I can paint my nails.  I find doing this process helps to keep my nails feeling healthy between polishes.

Did you like seeing how I prep my nail? What do you do to get your nail ready for your next manicure?

Look Book: Redy for a Mint

And thus concludes my little series of posts, from nails, to makeup, and now an outfit.  After I was matching my nails to my face, it only seemed right to match everything to an outfit.  Ben and I had a little dinner and a movie date night planned, so I wanted something nice, but still casual to go out in. I was rocking some cray cray make up, so I wanted a more toned down outfit to balance it out.

I am so obsessed with this mint peplum top. The color is so light and pretty, and I just love the lace accents and flattering shape. I thought a peplum cut would make me feel juvenile, but I actually feel very grown-up and sophisticated! Going with the theme I paired this mint top with a pair of red jeans. Just to keep this look fun and theme fitting, I completed the look with my black kitty flats.

Gosh, I just love matching!

I loved this outfit, and I really felt great in it! I love colors that you expect to not work together, but end up being the best of friends. It makes 2 plain, solid pieces, look amazing together.

I hope you liked my little week of color matching. Do you want me to do color matching series posts like this again in the future?

What do you think of this red and mint outfit?

Claws Up!
