Mix & Match Makeup Looks: Pocahontas

And I'm back with part 2 of my Pocahontas look. You saw my nail art look already, and now its time for my matched makeup.

Lately I have been seeing a new makeup trend where the upper eyelid has a neutral brown look, and the lower lid is a bold bright blue. For example, Kim from the show Kim of Queens, and on the show Glee. At first I thought it was a bit strange, but the more I saw it the more I liked it. When I was planning my makeup look for Pocahontas, I knew I wanted to do a soft brown look to reflect her dress, but I also wanted to highlight her blue necklace. What better time to try out this new brown and blue look than with my Pocahontas post?!

Mix & Match Pocahontas

Do you want to hear a secret? I haven't painted my nails since I did the pastel Beauty Buffs post. That is a whole month without polish on my nails! My nails were in really bad shape. They were constantly pealing and breaking, and I didn't want to show them to the world. With work finally slowing down, I had time to care for my babies, and now they have all grown up, went to college, and having babies.

I have been itching to do some intricate nail art. What better time than with a Disney Princess look? And what better Disney Princess than my all time favorite, Pocahontas?!

Pocahontas has been my favorite Disney movie ever since I saw it in theaters when I was 5 years old. I had Pocahontas dolls, clothes, even a bath set! I watched that movie a hundred times, and I still laugh and sing along when I watch it now. I love that, like me, she cares about animals and the environment. I love that she chooses her own path. And of course I can relate to a long distance love story.

The Beauty Buffs: Yellow

First of all, I want to apologize for my blogging absence, from both posting and commenting on your blogs. Work got pretty hectic. Working at a doggy boarding facility means that when most people's jobs are slowing down around the holidays, mine is crazy busy.

Second, I am so excited to be in my third week of Beauty Buffs posts! If you missed  my other Beauty Buffs posts, we are a group of beauty, fashion, and nail bloggers that post every other Wednesday around a central theme. This week's them is yellow.

Biotin AKA I do it and my husband loves it!

It is no secret (and if it actually is, please don't tell anyone) that I have nubby nails. I have been struggling with growing my nails for my whole life. I have terribly weak nails that are constantly pealing and breaking. I see lots of bloggers with beautifully long nails, and I really wish that I could grow mine long too.

Name a nail hardener, strengthener, or grower and I guarantee that I have tried it! Yes I use OPI Nail Envy. Yes I use Barielle Nail Strengthener cream. Yes I have tried Sally Hansen Miracle Cure for Xtreme Problem Nails. I am telling you, nothing seems to prevent my babies from breaking.

Recently my mom told me that my grandma had the same problem. My mom remembers her trying every nail treatment (that you could get in the 1950's) and not a single one ever worked. I have tried to give up on finding that perfect product, but my everlasting desire for long nails just keeps me searching.

We have all seen that Biotin commercial, where the women imply that what they are doing occurs in the bedroom.  However, they are talking about taking the Biotin vitamin, that is said to improve skin, grow hair...and strengthen nails. I have tried everything possible to put ON your nails, but I decided that I needed to try a more internal solution.

The Beauty Buffs: Royal Blue

Hello and welcome to another installment of The Beauty Buffs!

I have decided that I have a love/hate relationship with this group. I LOVE that we can pretty much post about anything we want. I love seeing all the other girls' different takes on the themes...and I hate that we can post about anything we want! It makes it super hard to decide what I want to do!

I'm just kidding, I love everything about this group :) But it is really hard for me to decide what kind of post that I want to do. Royal Blue week has been particularly difficult! That is because I love royal blue so much, and I have three amazing royal blues in my collection, one nail polish, one eyeshadow, and a pair of shoes.

Do I do a nail post? Look book? Makeup look?? Makeup! Clothes! Nails! I just couldn't decide. I love all three things so much, I didn't want to leave any of them out. No one wants to be the last kid picked for the team.

Deborah Lippmann's Mermaid's Dream

Mermaid's Dream isn't new, and I know almost all of you have seen it swatched already, but I was so excited when I got it, I needed to show it off myself. My mom actually got me a whole set of mini DL's, which included Mermaid's Dream. There were lots of beauties in the set, but none that stood out more than this one. Whenever I don't have time for nail art, but want something pretty on my nails, I usually go for something unique. A polish that can stand alone, and Mermaid's Dream is definitely that kind of polish.

Mix & Match Makeup Looks Beauty and the Beast

Annnnnddddd I'm back with your regularly scheduled Mix & Match post.

As I mentioned in the first half, I wasn't too pleased with my nails, but I was really excited to show you the makeup portion. I was actually worried that the makeup look wasn't going to be all that great. I am not a fan of yellow, so I wasn't really sure how I was going to create a convincing Belle look. After playing around I ended up loving my makeup look so much more than the nail look!

I just have to say that I was super happy that I created my Belle looks during Valentine's week. I already had a beautiful red rose on hand given to me by my boyfriend, and I had just curled my hair = instant Belle perfection.
