A Glittering New Years Eve With AuttyW

Halloween will always be my #1 favorite holiday, but New Years Eve is not too far behind. I love ringing in the new year by having lots of fun. You get to start the year off feeling good, and I think that can get the tone for the whole year to come.

My blogging bestie, Autumn, of AuttyW, and I were talking about new years eve nail art and we decided it would be even more fun to do a twinsie collab! I also felt that this would be the perfect opportunity to try out one of my new Ciate nail polishes.

Born Pretty Store Review: White Liquid Latex

Press Sample

I really hate doing water marbles and gradients. Not just because I suck at them, but becasue of the clean up. I swear it takes me longer to clean up my cuticles than it does to do the actual nail art! I have wanted to try out liquid latex for my nails for ages in hopes that it would make messy nail art easier to do.

Born Pretty Store sent me a bottle of their White Liquid Latex and I was so excited to give it a go! The directions are simple, just paint on the liquid latex around your nails. Once it's dry, do your nail art like normal. When you are all done, use a pair of tweezers to peal off the latex.

Ciate Mini Mani Month 2015

One of my family traditions is to travel to Austin, TX every December to celebrate the holidays with my brother and sister-in-law. My brother and I both love Star Wars, and went to see Revenge of the Sith and The Clone Wars together in theaters. When we found out that The Force Awakens was coming out in December, we planned our holiday trip a year in advance. P.S. It was amazing!

We also exchanged gifts during my visit last weekend. One gift I got was the 2015 Ciate Mini Mani Month. I only ever got the Mini Mani Month once before, in 2012, so I was really excited. Since I just got it last weekend, and it's intended to be opened from December 1st through the 24th, I decided to do a round up today of the whole box! (Warning, this is a picture heavy post.)

Born Pretty Store Review: Silver Lace Nail Art Stickers

Pres Sample

This December all I have been thinking about are dark colors and metallics. I don't celebrate Christmas so I am not really into red and green, but the holiday time is perfect for blacks, blues, golds, and silvers. It reminds me of the night sky (since the nights are longer now), with twinkling stars and lights.

It's no wonder I was drawn to these silver lace nail art stickers from Born Pretty Store. I knew I wanted to wear them over black. I also layered gold and silver flakies to really get into the spirit. These stickers are really easy to use, just peal them off the backing and stick them to your nails!

Makeup Monday Must Haves: Colorful Liquid Eyeliner

In this blog's beginning days, it was just a nail blog. Once in awhile I would share a makeup look or outfit, but I still branded Claws Up as a nail blog. Two Years ago, I decided to make a change, and I rebranded my blog as a beauty and style blog. Once that happened my love for makeup went from a flame to a fire and my collection grew.

One thing that love doing is less wearable, more fun, makeup art. I realized to do this I needed more colorful liquid eyeliner, think paint for my eyes. I have a few colors, but I really have been wanting to expand my collection.

Makeup Monday Must Haves: Colorful Liquid Eyeliner

I loved those colorful liquid eyeliners from Urban Decay so much that I just bought three of them, plus they were on sale, can't get any better than that! Keep an eye out for some colorful eye looks!

Do you like colorful liquid eyeliner? What is your favorite color to wear?

Look Book: Grey Cardigan

I didn't get into cardigans until I was in college. Before then, I was all hoodies all the time. The first cardigan I ever got was medium grey and plain. I wanted something that would go with everything. That thing got worn all the time. Recently, I decided it was time to retire my favorite cardigan. It was just too warn out. That left a hole in my closet for a new grey cardigan.

I checked a number of stores, but I could not find a plain, grey cardigan. Why were they so hard to find? Finally, while on a shopping trip with my mom, I spotted one!

Me Thyme Review

Pres Sample

I love creating a spa-like environment at home. You don't always have to spend loads of money to pamper yourself. Sometimes all you need is a few candles, some nice music, and the right products. I love how relaxed I felt when using the Maple Holistics Dead Sea Mud Mask.

When Me Thyme gave me the opportunity to try some of their products, I jumped at the chance. Me Thyme is an all natural line of bath and body products. Even better, everything is vegan, cruelty free and free of chemicals.

Makeup Monday Must Haves: Moss Green Eyeshadow

During one of our daily Snapchats with blogging bestie, Autumn, she mentioned how much she loved the eyeshadow I was wearing. When I told her it was Urban Decay's Mildew, she wanted it instantly. That was my inspiration behind this Makeup Monday Must Haves post!

Moss green is one of those ugly-pretty colors. In theory, an earthy green isn't the prettiest, but sometimes that's what makes a color so beautiful!

Makeup Monday Must Haves: Moss Green Eyeshadow

Being a darker color, moss green is the perfect eyeshadow color for bold and dramatic looks. It can be worn with browns, blacks, even golds, for a gorgeous glam look!

Born Pretty Store Review: Lace Transfer Foils

Press Sample

I always felt that fall was the busiest time for me, but it looks like winter is too. Well, technically, it's still fall for a few more days. Between wedding planning, house shopping, and holiday parties, I have been swamped!

Even with everything going on, I want to make sure I get these blogs posts out, especially the reviews. A little while ago I tried out these lace transfer foils from Born Pretty Store. It came as a 100 cm long ribbon in a small jar, without any instructions. I looked up the instructions online and it said to apply two coats of nail polish, the darker the better, and wait until it's tacky. Then press the foil on the nail to transfer the image, and peal off the plastic.

I got the black lace pattern, and I knew I wanted to wear it over a red polish. As per the instructions, I chose a darker red.

Julep Maven December 2015 Box: The All Night Long Collection

When Julep released the December 2015 collection, I knew that I needed to opt in for a Maven box. This month we were introduced to the All Night Long collection that looks like it's perfect for New Years Eve. This collection was filled with glitter bombs and vampy colors.

I opted for the Sultry Starlet box which contained a nail polish, Dial Up Your Glam eyeshadow, and It's Whipped Matte Lip Mousse. Let's unbox it together!

Makeup Monday Must Haves: Contour Palette

It is no secret that contouring has been really popular lately. Have you seen some of those videos were people completely transform themselves using makeup contouring? It is seriously amazing what makeup can do, and that is one of the reasons I love it so much.

I have been wanting to get into the contouring game for a while. I tried a contour palette by Physician's Formula, but I was hoping for a more dramatic effect. Then I picked up a definer by ELF, which I like, but it was only the dark color, and I still need a light color to highlight. I am pretty pale, so it has been a struggle finding a highlighter that is lighter than my skin (similar to my midi-ring struggles) so I have actually been using a light eyeshadow #TheStruggleIsReal #PaleGirlProblems

Makeup Monday Must Haves: Contour Palette

I have been dying to get my hands on a real contour palette. One with a deep shade, a shade light enough for my pale skin, and all the colors in between.

Do you like to play with contouring? What is your favorite contour palette?

Born Pretty Store Review: Zodiac Stickers

Press Sample

I have been interested in astrology for as long as I can remember, and I really feel a connection with the signs in my chart. A few years ago I got a tattoo to represent the three signs I resonate with the most, Libra, my sun sign Scorpio, and Sagittarius.

A few years ago, Kelly from Devilish Designs, did nail art inspired by her tattoo and I loved the idea! I knew I wanted to do tattoo nail art too. I have two other tattoos, but my zodiac tattoo is my favorite. When I saw that Born Pretty Store had zodiac nail stickers, I was so excited to try them out in some tattoo inspired nail art.

Makeup Monday Must Haves: Berry Lips

I have mentioned it before, but I used to be really scared of bold lips. I love a dramatic eye, and to me, a bold lip on top of that would just be too much. Plus, I hated having to worry about my lipstick coming off, and then having to pull out a mirror to reapply. I was a lip balm girl through and through.

But something switched in my head earlier this year, and now I am bold lipstick obsessed! It's perfect for when I am too lazy for a full eyeshadow look, but I still want to look put together. I started collecting lippies left and right, from bright corals, to classic reds, and fun pinks. However, my favorite would have to be the boldest of them all, berry.

Makeup Monday Must Haves: Berry Lipstick

Now that fall is almost over, and winter is just around the corner, I have been lusting over dark berry lipstick even more. You can bet that I will be using every one of my berry lippies during these next few months, and that just makes me want to add more to my stash!

Do you love berry lipstick as much as I do? What lip colors do you love for the winter?

Born Pretty Store Review: Gold & Silver Foil Part 2

Press Sample
Happy Black Friday! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday. Remember how thankful you were yesterday while your punching someone in the face for 75% off today. I spent the day in Connecticut with my dad, and today I will be heading to my house in New York for official Thanksgiving dinner. Tomorrow, Ben and I are heading to his house in Pennsylvania for dinner with his family. I feel like I am on tour - A different city every night!

The other day I reviewed gold and silver foil from Born Pretty store in a beautiful nail art look. Today I wanted to use these foils in a more out-there look. Autumn suggested that I use them for a makeup look, and I loved the idea!

Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and other gold.

I have been obsessed with gold and silver leaf nail art as soon as it became popular. It's such a gorgeous look, and it feels pretty cool to have real gold on your nails. I remember when I first saw gold leaf while on vacation with my dad out west. It blew my mind how thin gold could get!

You can bet I couldn't wait to try out the gold and silver foil from Born Pretty Store!

Makeup Monday Must Haves: Copper Eyeshadow

There is something about the cold weather that makes me gravitate towards metallics. There's no shortage of gold and silver around, but there are other metallics that deserve some love too. I have been loving the look of copper eyeshadow lately. The shimmer of a metallic alone is enough to win me over, but the warmth of a beautiful copper is the perfect contrast to a cold November (that, plus hot chocolate).

Hidden Creek Country Club Wedding Show

Ben and I have been slowly but surely planing our wedding for the past ten months. We haven't made too much progress, but we have booked our venue, and we are starting to do our research. It was perfect timing when I heard about a local Northern Virginia wedding show, and even better, it was at our venue!

One thing that was very important to me while we were there was to talk to vendors that are familiar with our venue. We spoke to DJs, photographers, and hotels, and we even got to try some cake! We learned about what was important to us, and what we could do without.

Look Book: Under The Sea

It wasn't took long ago that wearing leggings as pants made me very uncomfortable. I have come so far since then, and I am rocking leggings at least once a week. My new obsession is crazy leggings, something that really makes a statement. I have tie-dye, leopard print, and even plaid. During a trip to Kohl's I saw a pair that I had to have.

I am a huge Disney fan, and The Little Mermaid is one of my favorite movies. When I saw Ariel leggings all I could think was "shut up and take my money!"

Makeup Monday Must Haves: Colorful Mascara

Have you ever had a shower thought? Where you are just relaxing in the shower with your own thoughts and you come up with the best ideas? That happened to me the other day. I was thinking about blog posts, like I usually do, and I thought it would be so fun to do a weekly post where I share makeup I'm lusting. I decided to create "Makeup Monday Must Haves".

I would like to do a post every monday sharing makeup I am loving, in addition to the two posts per week I usually do. I must be a glutton for punishment, because I already feel that with my full time job, planning a wedding, and buying a house, that I barely have time to blog. And now I want to add another blog post each week? I might be crazy!

Look Book: 26th Birthday

I know that November is half over (wow, that went by fast!), but I am finally sharing my birthday outfit. For a special night out having dinner at The Melting Pot and seeing Rocky Horror, I needed a look that would make me feel beautiful and confident.

When I was home a few months ago, my mom got me this navy blue peplum dress, and I knew I wanted to wear it on my birthday. Since it was a chilly fall night, I completed the look with tights, boots, and a cute jacket.

Makeup Looks: 26th Birthday

It was my 26th birthday a few weeks go, and to celebrate, Ben took me to The Melting Pot, which has become my birthday tradition. Then we went to a Rocky Horror Picture Show sing-a-long. Rocky Horror is a movie with a huge cult following. Around Halloween it is pretty common to see live showings where you can watch the move, throw props, sing along, and yell out "call lines". When I was in college I was in my school's production. It's something that's just so fun and special to me and I had an amazing time!

Halloween Look Book + Makeup Looks : Dia De Los Muertos

Don't forget to enter my giveaway!

All month long I have been counting down, and preparing for the big day, Halloween! Personally, I feel the most comfortable when I am dressed up. Self expression is extremely important to me, which is why I created a beauty blog. Dressing up is one of my favorite forms of self expression. You get to wear anything you want, have crazy makeup, and you can go out in public and it's completely normal. Its an amazing day of the year.

Since I love Halloween so much, I wanted to share my official Halloween look on the blog. After all, this is a space for me to express myself. This year I went out for Halloween as a Day of the Dead sugar skull. My costume consisted of a few of my own clothes, some new clothes, and a few pieces I picked up at the party store.

Halloween + 26th Birthday Nails: Dia De Los Muertos

Don't forget to enter my giveaway!

Today is the big day, happy Halloween! I love Halloween so much and I am so happy that its finally here! Ben and I have already begun celebrating, last night we went to a Rocky Horror Picture Show sing along. I used to perform in Rocky when I was in college, and I miss it every day.

But today is the big day! Ben and I are going out tonight for a night of drinking and dancing and I can't wait. I will be dressing up as a Day of the Dead sugar skull. Sugar skulls have resonated with me for as long as I can remember. The Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday when friends and family go to the cemetery to celebrate the lives of the people that have passed away, and just party it up. Part of this celebration involves painting skulls made of sugar in bright colors and beautiful designs.

Another reason I have loved the Day of the Dead for so long is because it falls on my birthday, November 2nd! I usually do Day of the Dead nail art special for my birthday (23rd, 24th, 25th) but since I am dressing up as a sugar skull this year, I thought it would be fitting for Halloween this year too.

Halloween Look Book: Renaissance Fair

Don't forget to enter my giveaway!

One of my favorite fall activities is going to the Renaissance Fair in Maryland. Last year was my first time ever going to any Ren Fair, and I had so much fun! However, since I had never gone before I didn't really know how to dress up, so I just wore regular clothes. Let me tell you, I was SO SAD that I wasn't in garb! I love dressing up so much, and missing out on an opportunity really bummed me out.

This year, I was determined to dress up! I am still pretty new to the Ren Fair, and I'm not ready for the authentic garb, so I decided to pick something up on a routine trip to Party City.

Scratch: The Zodiac Collection - Scorpio

Don't forget to enter my giveaway!

In January of last year, Scratch nail wraps caught my eye. They were releasing a zodiac collection, and I was really excited. If you don't know, I am a proud Scorpio. If you look up the traits of a Scorpio, I am the textbook definition. But really, I love all astrology, and I even have a tattoo of the signs I most resonate with. Sadly, I had to wait until November for them to release the Scorpio wraps, but I scooped them up right away.

But November meant broken nails for me. Actually, my nails were in bad shape for months. It wasn't until this past summer that I was finally able to grow my nails out enough to wear them. Posting Scorpio nails in the summer though? That doesn't work for me. So I decided to save this post for the month of Halloween nail art. The first day of Scorpio was yesterday, so it was the perfect fit!

French Spiders

Don't forget to enter my giveaway!

We are right in the thick of October and I am loving it! The chilly weather, the leaves are finally changing, and I have been enjoying things in pumpkin flavor that I never thought would exist. Ben and I have our engagement photo session today too and I am so excited! I have also finalized my Halloween costume for my office party, as well as Halloween night. Halloween may only be one night a year for most people, but for me its all October long (and a little bit in November too for good measure).

I am continuing my month of Halloween looks with more Halloween nail art. A couple of years ago my mom got me a bunch of Halloween nail stickers, and I like to break them out every October. This time I went for a festive French manicure with Halloween flare.

Mix & Match: Makeup Looks Sally's Song

Don't forget to enter my giveaway!

A few days ago I shared a Sally nail art look as part of my month of Halloween looks. I love The Nightmare Before Christmas and Sally a lot, and I knew I wanted to do a second look. Experimenting with makeup looks is fun, and I usually opt for more bold, less wearable looks. But with this being Halloween, its the perfect time for extra crazy makeup, so I wanted to really get out of my comfort zone.

Mix & Match: Sally's Song

Don't forget to enter my giveaway!

With how much I love Halloween, it's no surprise that I love The Nightmare Before Christmas. It's dark and creepy, but also funny, and I love the songs. I love the relationship between Jack and Sally, how she had feelings for him but he didn't notice, and by the end he realizes how he feels about her. It reminds me a lot of the beginning of my relationship with Ben.

I especially related to Sally's Song...

And does he notice my feelings for him?
And will he see how much he means to me?
I think it's not to be

And will we ever end up together?
No, I think not, it's never to become
For I am not the one

...and how it's connected with the Finale/Reprise.

And sit together, now and forever
For it is plain as anyone can see
We're simply meant to be

Being that The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favorite Halloween movies, and how much I love Sally, I really wanted to do a Sally look for my month of Halloween looks.

Halloween Cats

October is finally here! For those who don't know, fall is my favorite season, and October is my absolute favorite month! It is the quintessential fall month. I also am obsessed with Halloween. I just love all the dark and spookiness, and I love to dress up. To me, Halloween is all October long and I love to find ways to celebrate.

One way I celebrate is by featuring Halloween looks on the blog. To start off the month, I wanted to combine Halloween with my other favorite, cats. I love cats, and I love that you can find cute black cats everywhere during Halloween.

ShelterPups Custom Stuffed Cats

A couple of years ago I was browsing around Pinterest I and stumbled upon a website that made stuffed animal dogs custom to look like your own dog. I thought that was the coolest thing, and I really wanted a custom stuffed animal of my cat, Muffin. Unfortunately, ShelterPups only made custom dogs, with custom cats coming soon.

I have some fun fall posts planned for October, but for now I have a gorgeous swatch to share. This is Deborah Lippann Sarah Smile. Created with the help of Sarah Jessica Parker, this polish is a really pretty pale pink nude.

Look Book: The Book of Mormon

A little while ago, Ben and I got tickets to see Book Of Mormon while it was playing in Washington DC. While we were spending the day in the city, we thought it would be the perfect time to finally hit up The Four Seasons brunch. I promised Ben I would take him there for a belated Valentine's day gift. The show was pretty funny, but also really inappropriate. Brunch...was amazing!

For a day out in the city I wanted to wear sometime cute, but would also keep me cool walking around on a hot day. This is not the first time this skirt has made an appearance on the blog, but it was time to bring it out again.

Makeup Looks: Brown Eyed Girl

I love the song Brown Eyed Girl, though I wish it was Brown and Black Eyed Girl so it could be about me, but that's a mouthful.

Sometimes I will put together a makeup look, nail art, or an outfit, and be totally inspired. Ideas just start flowing and I can't wait to execute everything. That happened when I created my Pocahontas makeup look. I loved the shades of brown mixed with a pop of color, and I really wanted to try it out with purple.

And then I totally forgot.

It wasn't until I was looking through old posts, and I read that I had that idea, that I remembered I wanted to do it!

Mix & Match Makeup Looks: Snow White

If you are new around here, I have a series called Mix & Match, where I match my nail art to a makeup look. Branching off that, I have a Mix & Match series where my looks are inspired by Disney princesses. The other day I posted a Snow White nail art look, so continuing on with my series, today I have a Snow White makeup look to share.

Mix & Match: Snow White

It's been too long since I have done a Mix and Match Disney princess post and I think it's time to change that. The next one I had up on my list was Snow White. That actually might be my least favorite Disney princess movie. It creeps me out! The fact that she lives with seven strange men, and I distinctly remember something about a pig heart.

I had an idea all planned out when I started, and I ended up totally going off script as I went along. I wish I had stuck with my original plan though because when I was all done with these I wasn't too happy with them.

Mirina Collections Review: Audrina Necklace + Double Bead Earrings

Mirina Collections sent me these item for review. All opinions are my own.

How popular are statement necklaces right now? Every time I go out I see someone rocking a bold and beautiful neck piece. I too have jumped on the train and I have an ever growing collection of statement necklaces. That's why I was super excited when Mirina Collections invited me to be a part of their Brand Ambassador program!

Mirini Collections is known for their amazing statement necklaces, but they also offer a huge selection of other accessories too. I chose the Audrina necklace, and I was also sent the Double Bead Earrings for review.

Since this is an honest review it's time for some #realtalk. The website says that necklaces can take three to four weeks to ship. I was emailed when the order processed, but over four weeks later and I still had not received my package. I emailed the company and they told me they just put the package in for overnight shipping and I should get it in a few days. I did get it a few days later, but why was it sent overnight over four weeks after the order processed?

When I received the package, everything was wrapped nicely, but when I opened the wrapping, I found that two of the little pearls on the necklace had come off at some point. and were rolling around loose.

With a little crazy glue, I was able to glue the two pearls back in place.

Engagement Parties + Wedding Planning Updates

Can you believe it's September already? This summer has seriously flown by. Usually by now I am longing for scarfs, cool weather, crunchy leaves, and pumpkin spice. But this year I swear I blinked and summer was over.

Maybe that is because I have been so busy. Once the dust settled after Ben and I got engaged, we were in planing mode. Two engagement parties and a ton of venue visits, throw in a few vacations, and I barely had time to breathe. Now that fall is right around the corner, I wanted to take a moment to share some summer wedding planning updates.

Makeup Looks: Summer Garden

It's funny how life works sometimes. When I sit down with a plan of doing a makeup look for the blog, I usually end up not liking it. Then when I do my makeup just for a day of running errands, I love it. I put on a green and pink outfit one Saturday, and as usual I did some makeup to match. I was just putting stuff on with no plan and I ended up really loving it! After I came back from the grocery store I took lots of photos!

Florida Photography

A few weeks ago Ben and I traveled to Florida and met my dad there to visit my grandpa, aunts, and cousins. There is a beautiful nature walk right by my grandpa's house that my dad and I love going to. The last three times my dad and I went to Florida we made sure to stop by our favorite trail.

This time was a little different, becasue it was the first time going to the nature trail with my brand new camera! I always have fun taking photos there, but this time I was ever more excited. I was so proud of them I wanted to share some of them here!

Pastel Party

Is it just me, or did this summer go by really fast? I am shocked that the first day of fall is a month away! Don't get me wrong, I am counting down the days until fall, but I still like summer too. Once September rolls around I am going to submerge myself into scarfs, pumpkin spice everything, and jewel tones.
