Today is the big day, happy Halloween! I love Halloween so much and I am so happy that its finally here! Ben and I have already begun celebrating, last night we went to a Rocky Horror Picture Show sing along. I used to perform in Rocky when I was in college, and I miss it every day.
But today is the big day! Ben and I are going out tonight for a night of drinking and dancing and I can't wait. I will be dressing up as a Day of the Dead sugar skull. Sugar skulls have resonated with me for as long as I can remember. The Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday when friends and family go to the cemetery to celebrate the lives of the people that have passed away, and just party it up. Part of this celebration involves painting skulls made of sugar in bright colors and beautiful designs.
Another reason I have loved the Day of the Dead for so long is because it falls on my birthday, November 2nd! I usually do Day of the Dead nail art special for my birthday (23rd, 24th, 25th) but since I am dressing up as a sugar skull this year, I thought it would be fitting for Halloween this year too.
My mom and my cat gave me cards and some gifts for Halloween, including a glow-in-the-dark nail polish, and I knew I had to break it out for Halloween!
Since my nails are so small, I knew I wouldn't be able to fit all the gorgous sugar skull designs on them and do them justive, so I went with simple sugar skulls, and then did deatailed designs as French maniure accent nails. I just love how they came out, I think these might be my favroite Day of the Dead nails to date!
How are you celebrating Halloween? What kind of birthday nail art do you like to do?
