Makeup Monday Must Haves: Ombre Lips

Gradients and ombre have been super popular the last few years. Everything from nails to hair have gotten the ombre treatment. It's the perfect way to add extra color, but with a smooth transition. One ombre look I am been loving is ombre lips. Now that I have gotten into lippies (I used to be strictly a chapstick girl), I have been enjoying playing around with colors, and ombre is next on my list!

Makeup Monday Must Haves: Ombre Lips

There are lots of way to achieve the ombre lip look. One way is with an ombre lip color set. These sets have two lippie colors that you can blend together. Other companies are selling dual-color lippies, so you can apply both colors of the ombre at once. Finally, you can create the ombre look by mixing a little black to darken, and a little white to lighten, to one shade of lipstick you already have. Now you have three shades of the same color for the perfect ombre lip.

Do you like the ombre lipstick trend? Which of the three methods have you tried?

Makeup Looks: Funfetti

It was just a normal Sunday around here a few weeks ago. I had just done my nails, and it was time to work on a makeup look. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, so I turned to Pinterest. I scrolled through and saw lots of fun eyeshadow looks for inspiration, but then something magical caught my eye.

I saw this confetti eyeliner look and I was just drawn in. I have a bunch of colorful liquid eyeliners, so I thought I could try it out.

Born Pretty Store Review: Nail Art Brushes + Ciate Snow Globe

Press Sample

Back when I first started blogging, I didn't own a single nail art brush. I did all my art using the nail polish brush, and blue painter's tape.  Shortly after I got my first nail art brush. It was a small brush on one side and a dotting tool on the other. I couldn't believe how much better nail art was with it! Then a little while later I got a Bundle Monster brush set, and my mind was blown again.

Lately, however, I have been feeling like something was lacking from my brush collection. I didn't have any small, detailing brushes. That's why I couldn't wait to review these nail art brushes from Born Pretty Store. They come in a pack of three with varying lengths of bristles. I knew I wanted to break out Snow Globe that I got from the Ciate Mini Mani Month 2015 for some inspired nail art.

The REAL Difference Between Thin Shaming and Fat Shaming

I recently read a post on why fat shaming and thin shaming are different, and I was really bothered by it. In the end, the message of the article is that we should stop body shaming everyone. However, it pointed out a difference between thin shaming and fat shaming.

Look Book: Business in the Front Party in the Back

I am pretty sure at any given moment, I am wearing an article of clothing that my mom bought for me. She has a shopping obsession, and that usually means she finds something for me. Also, like me, she can's pass up a deal, so if something is on sale, she has to buy it.

In this outfit, she bought my boots, socks, and sweater. I have been obsessed with hi-lo sweaters this winter. I already featured a black and white one (that my mom bought) here. My favorite thing about them? The fun surprise in the back!

Born Pretty Store Review: Blue Loose Glitter

Winter is officially upon us! We had a slow start with a pretty warm December, but these last few snows and cold nights mean winter is here. Punxsutawney Phil might have have let us know that spring is coming early this year, but for now it still feels like I'm living in Antarctica.

When I received this blue loose glitter from Born Pretty Store for review, I knew I wanted to do winter nail art. The loose glitter comes in every color you can imagine, including four shades of blue, and I received the lightest shade called 228. The loose glitter comes in a small pot with both micro, and hex glitters.

To use the glitter, I worked one nail at a time and painted each nail with a light shade of blue polish. Then I gently sprinkled the glitter on top. Once the blue polish underneath dried, I sealed it in with top coat.

A Year of Engagement

Yesterday was Valentine's day. A day to get all decked out in pink and red, and celebrate love. A day to take an extra moment to tell all the ones you love how special they are in your live. For Ben and I, it also marks the one year anniversary of our engagement.

Last year, on Valentine's day, Ben took me to dinner at Lady Gaga's restaurant and to see Aladdin on Broadway to celebrate. On the way to dinner, we took a short walk through central park, and he got down on one knee and popped the question.

I knew it was going to happen.

Hearts and Roses

I have been featuring Valentine's day looks on the blog all month, but I realized that neither of my manicures screamed Valentine's day. They had some roses and some hearts, but I wanted to do obnoxious Valentine's day nail art. I tried out Born Pretty Store rose decals, and I knew I wanted to break them out again for Valentine's day.

Makeup Looks: The Love in her Eyes

There's nothing better than love, and that's why I love Valentine's day. It's a day to celebrate all love, not just for your significant other, but for your family, your pets, and your friends. Some people hate the day because it's "single's awareness day", but to me, it's just love awareness day!

Every year I get a big Valentine's day care package from my mom. The requirements are that it has to have Reese's and a stuffed animal. She usually throws in an outfit to wear for my date with Ben, and a bunch of other fun things. In my box this year, I got a pretty red shimmer eyeshadow, and I knew I needed to use it in a Valentine's day makeup look. I already did more generic Valentine's makeup, so this time I went for a more fun and traditional look for the holiday.

Born Pretty Store Review: Heart Beat Nail Stickers

Press Sample

It's time to continue the month of love with another Born Pretty Store review. This time I'm featuring these heart beat nail stickers. I though these were so pretty right from the start. Not only are there hearts and the word "love" in the heart beats, but the heart beat can be a symbol of love itself.

These stickers were easy to use, just cut them to the right size, and stick them on your nails. I decided to go with sort of anti Valentine's day nail art with a red and black gradient. For the red polish I broke out Hutch from the Ciate Mini Mani Month 2015.

Love Shack Dog Rescue

It's February which means I am spreading the love around here as we count down to Valentine's day. I will be sharing a few Valentine's day nail art and makeup looks. But for this post, I want to spread actual love.

Of course I love my friends and my family, but I have a special place in my heart for my kitty, Muffin. She has taught me what unconditional love is. For all those that are lucky enough to have pets, you know what that special love is like. Sadly, so many dogs are homeless in shelters, and are not lucky enough to share that bond with a special human of their own.

One local rescue with lots of dogs waiting for their forever home is Love Shack Dog Rescue in northern Virginia.

Makeup Looks: Red and Gold Valentine's

I'm not sure why, but I have been extra excited for Valentine's day this year. I have always loved this day of love, but this year I have been particularly nastolgic. I can't help but think back to passing out those little paper valentines in elementary school. This year Valentine's day will be extra special, because it will also be the one year anniversary of Ben and I getting engaged.

I wanted to do two Valentine's day makeup looks, a more subtle one, and one that's more traditional. I decided to play with reds, golds, and browns, because I just love those colors together. And it's always appropriate to wear red on Valentine's day, right?

Born Pretty Store Review: Rose and Leaf Stencils

Press Sample

Can you believe that it's February already? That means that Valentine' day is two weeks away, and I have a few Valentine's themed posts to share. I'm going to start off with a review!

With Valentine's day around the corner, I thought this was the perfect time to try out these Born Pretty Store rose and leaf stencils. I decided to just try out the roses to fit the Valentine's day theme. To use these stencils, all you have to do is cut out the size you want, and peal them off the plastic backing. Once your nail polish is try, stick on the stencils. Finally, paint over the image, and peal off the stencil right away.

Makeup Monday Must Haves: Oil Slick

Have you noticed that the oil slick look has been really popular lately? It's easy to see why, it's gorgeous! When black, blue, purple, and green come together, something amazing happens. I love the blends of colors and the amazing effect.

Makeup Monday Must Haves: Oil Slick

There are lots of ways to rock the oil slick look. You can go for a dark eyeshadow, nail polish, or  lipstick that color shifts. Or you can combine a few colors together to create an oil slick effect. How gorgeous is that eye makeup? And that hair!

Do you like the oil slick trend? How would you wear it?
